UAZipster0305
If our SoS was really that weak, it would have been reflected in the RPI. What is the point of the RPI if it is not going to be used?
TennZip
horrible call by the NCAA Geoergetown did not play a good out of league schedule.... and Notre Dame lost to Northwestern.... Northern Illinois defeated Northwestern and Indiana at #16 is a joke....this is not 1990 and Jerry Yeagley is not their head coach... I would love to see Michigan State knock off Notre Dame in the round of 32.... New Mexico has a talented team and could knock off Connecticut.... Coach Porter will have them ready for Niagara-Michigan winner...and they will go from there this team is special....and they are hungry this slap in the face will make them even hungrier.... TennZip
connecticut is a top 4 seed...and lost to Providence and had a tie against boston U. not Boston college....boston U.... this Akron team did all the right things this year....on strength of schedule....and the NCAA still did not do the right thing... How can you be a top 4 seed with a loss to a non tournament team and a tie with Boston U?
yazan07
Interestingly enough, anyone else think that of the teams in our corner of the bracket that got a bye, UConn might actually be the weakest? Creighton and New Mexico are tough.
UAZipster0305
Where is Z.I.P.? I'd love his perspective on this. Maybe he saw the bracket and went to have a Mai Tai on the beach? Here's to breaking the back of the Selection Committee and winning another National Championship! MDZip
Everyone but the Big East took it in the shorts. Nice of the NCAA to make sure that none of their big four coul meet until the final, yet it was perfectly OK to send #2 Maryland up against the same ACC foe in the third round, Wake, that just beat them. Rooting against every Big East team now.

The rest of their schedule was crap teams or teams that Akron also beat (Michigan State. Penn State, etc.)

Now if Tom Wistrcill, supposed Director of Athletics at The University of Akron, the leader of our progrums, is worth his salt he had better come out and defend his team. Let the NCAA Selection Committee have it Dan Gilbert style. Come out and say how disgusted he is with the overall situation. Say how it's a disgusting problem and from what he's finding out with basketball seeding, it’s even worse with soccer. Blast them about how until there's a new board and new leadership they can have their corrupt/disgusting NCAA that they've created. I feel encouraged that he will go to bat for UA, he is no pushover. What about the Vice President For Strategic Engagement, Jim Tressel? He could strategically say something or would that risk future problems with his show cause? He has been engaged for strategery, use it. Hopefully he is familiar with Ayn Rand's essay on ? Maybe he is working on a multi-faceted approach to encourage and equip the soccer team to overcome this debacle. Call it "Operation Same Song, Different Dance." IMO, Notre Dame's #1 RPI gives them rightful claim to their seed. They beat us head-to-head as well. Maryland/Akron both make compelling cases for the #2/3 while the #4/5/6/7 should have gone to UConn/Georgetown/UCLA/UNC in any order. Zip_ME87
I don't understand the comments about UCLA and UNC getting screwed worse than Akron. Akron RPI #2 ---> #5 seed UCLA RPI #5 ---> #6 seed UNC RPI #9 ---> #9 seed I think the Zips got screwed the most. The Selection Committee scams the RPI whenever they want and refer to it only when it's convenient; why bother having it when the big conferences collude anyway. We have 2 home games and only one possible road game prior to the College Cup. I know the Zips can do this. I'm just beyond p'ssed that the NCAA can so completely disrespect my team. Apparently the committee must take more than just RPI into account. And Notre Dame played nine teams that made the tournament (but played some twice because of the Big East tournament), so strength of schedule is roughly comparable. Akron played eight, but ND lost THREE times and tied once. Don't see how that is the top seed with other worthy candidates with better resumes. I spoke with Tom Wistrcill at the men's basketball game. My suggestion to him was that he contact the Athletic Directors of both North Carolina and UCLA. And all three of them draft an open letter to the NCAA regarding the total shafting that all three schools got. That selection committee needs to be disbanded and replaced by honest, unbiased people. Wait, "honest, unbiased", are we talking about the same NCAA we all love? It is blatantly appearant that the NCAA has an agenda regarding this year's College Cup. A tournament comprised of four hand picked Big East schools. Wow, I am impressed.
icchamp1
Per MLS.com The biggest controversy surrounding the brackets is the snubbing of Caleb Porter’s Akron. Despite boasting a 14-game winning streak in which they’ve allowed just one goal as well as a No. 2 overall RPI ranking, the Zips were handed the No. 5 seed – meaning they would have to travel to face UConn in a potential quarterfinal. Seriously, Ayn Rand? The self-styled advocate of psychopathic greed and champion of "makers," who hypocritically took social security and medicare when she got old? Were those the compromises you were referring to? Ayn Rand as the impetus for any kind of "movement" went down along with Paul Ryan in last week's election. skip-zip
I always have the greatest respect for the schools who go out and schedule some of the top teams in the country to prove their worth. Caleb has been doing that for a long time. Yet, he doesn't seem to get the benefits. IF anyone else was at the basketball game tonight, you would have witnessed something pretty funny. The PA announcer told the crowd about the upcoming #5 seed in the soccer tournament, and the crowd BOOOOED. That's the way it should be. It's a continuation of a long history of Akron getting hosed.
