phil
Creighten is ranked in the top 25. I think Akron has a good opportunity to win if they play well. (they certainly are well rested only playing one game in 3 weeks) Has Akron ever beat a top 25 team?
Dr Z
As a general trend, in the past decade, if Akron is favored (by more than 3) they win, if they are not (by less than 3), they lose. Not many, if any, upsets.

From Pitt back in the 80's, to Xavier in the 90's, to Nevada in 00's to VCU in the 10's. Josh Cribbs: "We almost always almost win."
phil
Thanks, I could not recall doing it. I think this could be the year and Sunday could be the day. The talent is there.
GoZips
YES...!!!! The Zips back in the late 1940's defeated then number one ranked Duquesne on the road. Whitey Wahl played on that team and was justifiably proud of that win.

Whitey Wahl played on that team and was justifiably proud of that win. Yeah, but if I recall correctly the referees screwed Duquesne in that one. The Duquesne coach complained the laces on the ball were excessively large. And also filed a protest that Wahl had sharpened his uniform's metal belt buckle. Very controversial outcome. I believe Kinnesaw Mountain Landis made the final ruling?

akronzips71
We should have beaten Notre Dame in the Dance. They were ranked #5 or #6.
zippy_ua_00
We should have beaten Notre Dame in the Dance. They were ranked #5 or #6. Wasn't Toledo ranked when we beat them at the jar in the late 90s early 2000s?
skip-zip
No. But we are REALLY good at almost doing so. From Pitt back in the 80's, to Xavier in the 90's, to Nevada in 00's to VCU in the 10's. Josh Cribbs: "We almost always almost win." Almost beat Pitt TWICE. In 1986 at the old Fitzgerald Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh (a game where we failed to block out defensively at the free throw line a couple of times in the last minute), and in 1987 in a thriller at the Richfield Coliseum. If I recall, that 1987 Pitt team was #2 when they showed up here. I still can't believe that the 1986 Cleveland State team wasn't ranked when we beat them at the JAR. tpsjugglerdude
Per a quick look on Gozips.com it says Akron has never beaten a top 25 team in the D1 era.
phil
Just read the Yahoo summary about todays game and they indicated that with todays loss we are 0 for 25 against ranked teams since becoming a division one school in 1980. The did not mention the games we almost won.
