Blue & Gold
We're hoping he's a diamond in the rough. West Virginia is not heavily recruited, and his highlight video is pretty sick (it's at the beginning of this thread). Aren't all highlight videos sick? Yeah. But this kid's is especially sick. Dr Z
What am I missing? Here is a refresher. I had to view again.
Big Zip
He looks great but they all look great in these videos. I go by the fact that we seem to be the only one looking at this kid.
ZachTheZip
I go by the fact that we seem to be the only one looking at this kid. The state of West Virginia is overlooked by most FBS schools. They don't even bother to send scouts, because they can find similar talent in locations where they are already established. That means that when a good recruit comes along from WV, they get ignored. Coach Bowden has ties to WV that other FBS coaches do not, so we can find potential diamonds in the rough.
Dr Z
He looks great but they all look great in these videos. Before Al Gore invented the internet, the only film we got to see on these guys, was the film the coaches showed at signing day. I remember a wide receiver Lee Owens recruited who's film looked as good, if not better than this one. The kid never really produced. I also watched a film on Matt Cherry, and was not blown away. Moral of the story....
Zipgrad01
He picked Coastal Carolina. I pray that he picked them because he had a scholarship from them and not from us. It would be pathetic to lose football recruits to Coastal Carolina.

It would be pathetic to lose football recruits to Coastal Carolina. It seems unlikely that he had an offer here, but you're right that it would be disappointing to lose out to CCU if he did have one from UA. On the other hand, it's only 15.6 miles from Conway to Myrtle Beach......just sayin'

On the other hand, it's only 15.6 miles from Conway to Myrtle Beach......just sayin' I can't believe that a HS senior would stiff Bowden on signing day, then wait 6 weeks while still holding a Bowden offer in his pocket and then stiff him in favor of Coastal Carolina. Bowden wasn't that desperate. A more likely scenario is either: 1.) Bowden found someone better on signing day and rescinded the Zips scholarship offer 2.) The kid, or influential people chirping in the kid's ear, felt he could do better than the Zips...stiffed Bowden on signing day...and when the phones didn't ring, were left with a sack of beans instead of a D1-A scholarship. I would liked to have seen if his high school game tape would have transferred to D1-A college success. But it's no big loss, if it can even be considered a loss. On the other hand, he tweeted this a few days ago: Not jealous that people are at the beach right now, my life the next 4 years will be at the beach!! #Coastal As much as I/we believe the program is moving in the right direction, it's still 3 wins in 3 years, and the three wins aren't impressive. So right now, Coastal isn't a bad choice in comparison to Akron. Hopefully that's not the case soon.
LZIp
Man, why are we so worried about losing a guy when we were the only D1 school interested in him? Key word is interested, no way we offered him a scholly.

legendofzippy
Coach Bowden isn't losing a recruit to CC that he wants. You'd hope so, but why not? Let's not forget, CC beat our vaunted basketball team this year. I really don't care if we have this kid or not, but let's stay realistic. A young kid might not even know who the Bowden's are. Dr Z
...but why not? That's a good question for you to answer. Take some time (days) and think about it.
legendofzippy
That's a good question for you to answer. Take some time (days) and think about it. I don't see where (at the current time) Akron is clearly a better choice than CC. If a kid realistically knows he's an NFL longshot, there's really no difference between a top FCS and a low FBS school.
