I'll just note that Holmes' blocking ability translated directly from D2 JuCo, where he led the country in blocking, to D-I college, where he's #5 in the country in block percentage (Zeke is currently #9). Holmes shot 62% from the field in JuCo and is already at 63.7% in D-I. His rebounding per minute played is only slightly behind his JuCo rate. So he's already adjusted pretty well to D-I despite the disparity between D-I and D2 JuCo. Now I seriously doubt his 1st team All-American status will transfer over. But for a player in his sophomore season with less than a year's experience in D-I, there are many signs that he could develop into a high-level MAC player. We'll see over the next couple of seasons.

..... As far as the end of games, I'm not sure if it is possible but it would be interesting to see the points scored by the Zips and their opponents the last 4 minutes of games. Maybe one of the stat freaks, I mean that in a good way, could find something. But teams just haven't scored anything the last couple minutes games during this streak. .....

I was thinking of going through the play-by-plays of the last few games to check the scoring. But Elton beat me to it in this nice article just posted this evening.

I was impressed with Richaun Holmes' potential from the minute I saw his gaudy junior college stats were transferring over to D-I. But I never imagined he'd be the only MAC player picked in the 2015 NBA draft -- #37 by the 76ers.

He never seemed like an NBA talent to me...but it's the 76'ers, so I guess it kinda counts. He is no BG NBA alum Antonio Daniels (4th overall 1997)!?!?

Maybe Akron's mindset on JuCos needs reevaluated. #thenewmac

Agreed. Never looked like an NBA talent to myself, either. Multiple players in the MAC were better than him the past few seasons. This is a long-shot project pick at best, which makes you wonder why a pick would even need to be used on him. But, alas, it is the 76ers, where nothing they have done in recent years has made sense.

Good luck to him.

I know that a number of people on this forum doubted Holmes and even questioned whether he'd be more than a bit player in the MAC. NBA scouts saw him quite differently, and almost every mock draft predicted he was a solid second-round pick.

Sports Illustrated had a big pre-draft story on how Holmes' stock had risen at the Portsmouth Invitational and NBA Draft Combine, and that:

Teams have expressed interest in Holmes as high as the late 20s in the first round, according to multiple sources, which has him practically overbooked for pre-draft team workouts.

NBADraft.net predicted the following prior to the draft:

His play at the PIT along with his showing at the combine and subsequent workouts have cemented himself as a player who will hear his name called Thursday evening at the draft.

DraftExpress.com gave Holmes the following rankings prior to the draft:

Pick: 44 in 2015 Mock Draft
Rank 7 in NCAA Seniors
Rank 34 in Top 100 Prospects
Rank 14 in 2015 Power Forward

NBA.com's story on Holmes prior to the draft was headlined:

Overlooked at every level, Bowling Green's Richaun Holmes can do it all

Couldn't disagree more. Holmes has your prototypical size for a NBA PF, and has skill set that will transfer to the next level. Far from a project pick, let alone a "long-shot" project pick.

I suppose time will tell.

Hope it works out for him as I hope any MAC player has success at the next level, but I don't see it.
