Unfortunately, in Nick's last 5 games he is 6-13 from the line (46%). I think at one point in the season Nick was leading the team in FT percentage, but the last several games have not helped that cause.

Harney has played 25 games this year. His FT results in 5-game clumps:

Games 1-5: 10-15 (67%)

Games 6-10: 12-15 (80%)

Games 11-15: 9-13 (69%)

Games 16-20: 10-11 (91%)

Games 21-25: 6-13 (47%)

Overall: 47-67 (70%)

From 3-Land, Harney is 10-44 (23%). It appears on 2-point field goals he is 82-147 (56%).

Nick's length is such that he should be a tough match-up for most SFs. He should be getting the ball near the lane and/or driving far more than he is.

The free throw stats that BZ compiled (thank you, btw) prove the point. He's averaging less than 3 FTs/game, when he should be getting to the line 4+ times each game.

He reminds me of a slick fielding shortstop who wants to hit the long ball. He'd be far better off playing to his strengths, then spending the summer working on 10-15 J's.

@BirdZip, Nick hurt his shooting arm in the second half of the NDSU game, and was on the bench in great pain for quite awhile. When he returned to the court, he was fouled and tried to shoot two free throws. They both fell way short of the rim due to his still hurting shooting arm. Coach Dambrot took him out of the game after that, and he didn't return. That may be a partial explanation for his poor free throw shooting in the last few games.

It is almost comical how a thread that's strong on observations and opinions is doomed to be drug into the pablum-scented statistical abyss that is DiG.

Wow, and here I always thought that knowledgeable Zips fans would want to be made aware when their observations and opinions didn't align with real world facts. Seems kind of odd to want to encourage observations and opinions that are not supported by factual data.

DiG, allow me to say, keep doing what you're doing. I for one, enjoy the statistical side of the game. Often, the best, or only way to support an argument is to provide statistical data to support that argument. There are always grey areas, but this applies to not only sports but real world as well.

Keep it up, my fellow teamrankings.com buddy!

So here is my DIG question of the day:

If we win tonight, does the K E N T game Friday have any meaning?

We know we will not get the at large. That is gone.

Does a loss to K E N T have any real impact on our seeding, assuming we win at the Q?

Or should KD rest the starters and let the bench warmers get some minutes and have some fun?

I know it is about pride against the arch rival, but would that be worth risking injury to any of our starters?

Wow, Harney is 6 for his last 13 FT's. That is bad. Deal with the stat.

If you perform shoddy statistical analysis, knowledgeable Zips fans will call you out. They also get pissed when you derail solid thread topics with uneducated or ill-researched information.

No one here can keep up with someone who posts 25 times in a single day. And they shouldn't need to. Your monopolization of the board with opinion-free vagaries, endless statistics and fractional movements of the RPI has got to cease.

Hell no you dont rest the starters. That would send a real good message to the fans who sold the place out.

Plus, you want to go into the MAC tourney firing on all cylinders. Not an ugly win over Miami and a loss to Can't.

Right. How dare there be an upswing of traffic on the board! Reading 4 posts a day is always fun. I prefer to know as much about my team as possible.

Isnt there an "ignore" option?

Although I have so much more to say, I will just be short and to the point : I respectfully but completely disagree.

I think the Cap'n is just trying to find out if anyone on the board can spell F-A-C-E-T-I-O-U-S (Playfully jocular, humorous). What do I win? :D

@Captain Kangaroo, there has obviously been a misunderstanding. It wasn't clear to me from your original post that you meant to say that Harney's free throw shooting has been sub-par over his last dozen or so attempts. I interpreted you to say that his free throw shooting was sub-par period. I completely agree with your assessment that Harney's free throw shooting has been sub-par over the last few games. My apologies for anything I may have done to add to the confusion. That was certainly not my intent.

"There are lies, damn lies and statistics."

One can paint all sorts of pictures with statistics.

Not only is Dave our resident statistical expert, but he has taken to decide when a post should be started or not without understanding why a post was started. Is he a moderator?

if that is the case, I'm definitely glad I held my breath

Zips playing pretty well. So far there has been no post loss hangover.

Is anyone else concerned this team can't even bury a terrible MAC team from the tip to end at home? This team seems really out of synch. Call me Chicken Little but I've been concerned about this team's lack of killer instinct all season.

Exactly. Even after a loss the team can't get fired up. I'm not going to act impressed with a 3 point lead over any MAC team at halftime.

Better than being behind 10.

In general we are playing well, other than allowing those back door dunks. Our shots are just not dropping. Twice Tree had bunnies and could not get them to drop. Jake had a couple of threes rattle around. Walsh wide open 3 won't drop.

If we start making our shots it would be a blowout.
