Captain Kangaroo
We already won the MAC outright. We beat OU twice. Done deal. If I'm not mistaken, we have a MAC East "title" banner hanging in the JAR from when we were 3rd, in a 3-way tie? I think Buffalo Football gave out "MAC Championship" rings when they finished "#1", @ 5-3, in a 3-way tie for first in the East, but lost to the two teams ahead of them. They weren't even bowl eligible (5-7 overall). Schools will claim championships however they can get them...and hope their recruits don't do any research to verify their legitimacy. Zipmeister
The at-large glimmer is so tiny that it's easy to ignore. Where the win over Can't may be more helpful is in seeding. Presuming that the Zips W2@Q, the selection committee would likely make them a #13 seed. But there is some chance at getting a #12 if the Zips win out from here, depending on what happens to some other teams between now and Selection Sunday. So in that sense the Can't game is still important to win even beyond the importance of the rivalry. If you completely discount the possibility of a couple of dozen tragic bus accidents (and I don't) then the odds of the Zips landing at large glimmer is tiny. If the Zips win the MACC they will get a 12 (or better) seed.
The Hip Zip
Chauncey getting some nice minutes tonight and has played great defensively. Good for him. I thought the same thing, I watched him D up off the ball at all times and he did a solid job of that. He also had a real nice drive and kick to Alex for an easy 3. The boxscore says he got 5 minutes but I'd swear it was more than that. I love his emotion on the floor and that is one thing this team seems to lack. He is an asset to this program. jupitertoo
75-100 extra free throws AFTER practice. Tree gets it. I teased him about FTs in practice after that 3-of-11 effort. His reply: I don't tell you how to write your articles. I don't let you know when you have sentence fragments. I love his response, mostly because GT's copy is often rife with sentence fragments and non-sequiturs. They must not have a copy desk down at the corner of Exchange and High anymore. Dave in Green
Speaking of extra free throws, has everyone noticed that certain players are often short on free throws toward the end of the game when they're getting fatigued? It was suggested to one Zips player who shall go unnamed that he shoot extra free throws after practice. He said he was shooting extra free throws before practice. He was told that he needed to do it after practice when he was fatigued. This is one of those finer coaching points that can make a big difference toward the end of close games. Z.I.P.
For comparison, here's the attendance around the MAC: BG @ Can't: 2,853 OU @ Buffalo: 3,132 EMU @ CMU: 879 NIU @ Toledo: 3,603 Ball State @ WMU: 2,539 Eight hundred and seventy nine (Need a gaping mouth emoticron for input here)? This harkens back to the not-so-good-old-days when Keith Dambrot and Coleman Crawford would fight it out for bottom-dweller status in the league. While they are two of my favorite people, the memories give me chicken skin!

While they are two of my favorite people, the memories give me chicken skin! In CMU's defense, it was a special promotional event, "come dressed as an empty chair night." Winner of the 50/50 drawing was seat 7, Row D, section 102.
MDZip
Painful as the Buffalo loss was I have to admit the final line in this report from the Hustle Belt gave me a smile and I thought was worth sharing (but the first part was quite painful): • Jarryn Skeete (18 points, six rebounds, five assists) a freshman who would've had a career high in points if not for that 19-point game earlier this year against ... Akron. Here's an incredible pattern: Skeete averages 6.2 points per game against everybody else and 18.5 points against Akron. Maybe there's something about Canadians playing basketball against Australians. In English dialect paper-rock-scissors, moose smothers kangaroo. Would have added it in the Buffalo thread but that one has been closed.

I love his emotion on the floor and that is one thing this team seems to lack. He is an asset to this program. Chauncey's performance was one of the few bright spots for me last night. I've been critical of him the last few weeks on here, so when he plays well I have to make sure I acknowledge it. I really think he is going to be a big key for us down the stretch. When he has it going he brings an edgyness that is lacking with the rest of our wings. Still disappointed overall (as much as you can be with a double-digit win at home) with last night. This team just doesn't seem to want to give a full 40 minute effort. As much as I'm trying to convince myself that we will be ok even if they don't, I'm still very uneasy about it. And BTW, anyone who would even suggest that a game against Can't, at home, on senior night and on national TV could be meaningless needs to have their head examined. roopride
Agree on Chauncey. He actually gave us some penetration off the perimiter.
Dave in Green
I like the attitude expressed in this story prior to the Miami game: I think if we win this next game (Tuesday against Miami), you are going to see us play good basketball when it really matters,” Dambrot said. skip-zip
We already won the MAC outright. We beat OU twice. Done deal. Not true. If OU can tie us, it would be a shared title. And they would surely hang a banner in their arena. The tiebreakers are simply used for tournament seeding purposes.

Akron is the clear champion for the regular season and I think most serious Ohio fans would agree. We had our chances. Props to the Zips. This is the ONLY time I want to see them cutting any nets this year. Go Broncos! Go Zips!!!
