FromdaBurgh
How in the hell are there only going to be 500 available for Akron fans? What a joke. It really SUCKS...they allowed Michigan and Michigan State to buy up the majority of the tickets...its unfortunate but God doesnt like ugly and whats about to happen is that VCU is going to lose and so is Michigan...because how DISRESPECTFUL it is to (in an arena that holds over 22K) only give AKRON 500 TICKETS! I mean SERIOUSLY??!! GOD DOESN'T LIKE UGLY!!

I mean SERIOUSLY??!! GOD DOESN'T LIKE UGLY!! I suspect (but do not know this for sure) that each team was allocated the same number of tickets but with it being so close in distance there was probably a lot higher internal (to UA) demand for tickets which only leaves a certain amount for the fans (I also suspect students are not included in this number which is why fewer are available for the rest of us). Everyone who attends needs one and that means band members, cheerleaders, mascots, etc. and I think everyone comes out of that initial allocation. I don't mean to cause widespread panic but I wanted to pass along what I heard from what I believe is a pretty reliable source.
GP1
Steals are important to look at. Points off of turnovers are important to look at as well. Measuring the impact of good perimeter defense is a bit more difficult. I don't think there are statistics for "bad shots", "hurried shots", etc. These results are analyzed in stats like FG percentage, but there are no direct relationship stats. I saw VCU force UNCC into horrible shots that had no chance at going in the basket. It also forces a team to put their center in a position where he is a safety valve. If the Zips guards are having trouble, placing Zeke away from the blocks in order to receive a pass from a frantic guard may be needed. I'd rather have Zeke by the basket to get offensive rebounds. "Rhythm" can't be measured as well. A good defense keeps you out of your rhythm. Rhythm when dancing is important. Rhythm in the big dance is important as well. The Zips need to find a way to get into an offensive flow against this very good defense. This is going to be a great college basketball game. I'm green with envy for those of you who will be there. odhgibo
That goes both ways. We didn't get a 5-seed for no reason. Briante Weber and Treveon Graham were both freshmen last year. One is the Atlantic 10 Defensive POY and the other is our leading scorer and a 2nd-teamer in a 5-bid conference. Agreed. Both the 2012-13 Rams and Zips are significantly better than their 2011-12 counterparts (and even that Rams team took IU to the wire in the round of 32). I would go so far as to argue that the talent level of this year's Rams team is close to the level of the 2010-11 Final Four team, although a Burgess-type leader does not appear to have emerged (yet). VCU's last three tournament seeds have been 11, 12 and 5. The #11 and #12 seeds were jokes, a result of the CAA getting far less respect than the A10. Now that the school has had the benefit of playing a better conference, it's getting the type of seed it should have had two years ago. The wild card is Zeke ... when he steps up his game, Akron plays at level higher than a #12.
GP1
The wild card is Zeke ... when he steps up his game, Akron plays at level higher than a #12. I respectfully disagree. My wildcard will be how our off guards and small forwards handle the perimeter pressure of VCU. More in terms of ball security than shooting. odhgibo
Dambrot interview w/ Baskin & Phelps today Thanks, ZTZ. Coach KD sprinkled a few choice nuggets among the platitudes in this one.

VCU fans like the matchup without Abreu in there too. It'll be an interesting game. I still hate it, but there are reasons to believe both teams could win. The key factor that you guys are powerless to control and will likely be the deciding factor in VCU losing the game......AKzipper predicts you will win. Dr Z
Dambrot interview w/ Baskin & Phelps todayVery nice interview. Interesting quotes from KD: If we can get the ball in the post we will win....Half of our teams philosophy is Shaka's People make a big deal out of not having our point guard, we're going to be fine This team belongs more than any team I had...The hard part is getting there, it's time to take the next step
BirdZip
Shaka Smart to be interviewed next on SVP and Rusillo (ESPN Radio) (2:15 Monday) Worthless interview from an Akron perspective. Spent 3+ minutes talking about the VCU band. Zero minutes talking about the opening game. Shaka said not one word about Akron. Announcers mentioned Akron twice in passing, vaguely. K-Roo
And Elton is worthless as usual. I almost laughed out loud at work when I read the Headline. Four Things I Think..... never thought I'd see those words on an story by Ellen. Four Things I Think - Elton Alexander "3. OK, the one-in-a-hundred chance for the Zips is a lights-out shooting night and double-digit blocks by center Zeke Marshall. It will take 50 percent shooting, 40 percent on 3-pointers, 75 percent from the line . . . plus 35 great minutes from Zeke. Good luck. mes102
I have to admit. This is setting up really well. Everyone is picking VCU right now. Forget the regular season Bracketbuster game!!!!!! We're going to bust a lot of brackets this weekend, where it matters the most!!!!!! There's always those games that no one picks the first round game right (aka Norfolk State, Lehigh last season)
mes102
Also, it's ironic that KD joked about it in the press conference of possible draw of VCU 12 minutes in:
originalrowdy
Hey Joe you jackass....they won't be seeing it for the first time they played them just a year ago. Lunardatic is clueless. Cuz he knew exactly where we were playing and who that was going to be, right? I cannot wait until 95% of America's brackets are busted come midnight on the 21st. zen
You guys can't possibly expect these guys who don't know the Zips like we do to get on TV and predict an upset here. When Akron wins this game, these same guys will reach up their butts and pull out all sorts of rationalizations and convey just about any theory they can latch on to except saying that Akron was the better team. Dave in Green
The season began with enormous respect for OU, yet the Zips get zero respect for what they did to OU three straight games. They all predicted that OU would wipe out the Zips in the MAC tournament without our starting PG, yet shrug away the Zips' 19-point beat down of OU as if it were some kind of fluke that couldn't possibly translate to being the slightest bit competitive against VCU. We're on familiar ground here. We Zips fans know what it's like for our team to be disrespected. It only makes the wins so much sweeter.
