Look who showed up for open Gym

Delusional is what some of us our. If he had gone to college, he would of played at OSU, over his hometown, high school coach and teammates. He "gives back" to Akron as a courtesy, good PR for him with the city. Not to mention, when he's home, playing with our team is a convenience to him. Where else is he going to play against decent competition?

How many games has he attended since Dru and Romeo left; compared to Miami, Kentucky, and OSU?

I wont deny that what he does helps to an extent, but it is usually overstated.

again...i see no tangible benefit re the "relationship" between UA & james

I think what is posing as discussion here is best referred to psychologically as self-hatred, left over from the days of Akron U's losses in the first round of NCAA College Division games in the mid 70s. LeBron has stated publicly that, had he played college basketball, he would have spent his year in the JAR, with his coach, Keith Dambrot. Either that, or you're right -- having the most famous athlete in the nation playing in your gym and promoting your team is irrelevent.

Lol. He has stated he wishes he would of been a Buckeye many times.

Economics 101: LeBron earns millions of dollars from Nike, and tOSU is a much bigger deal to Nike than UA by virtue of way more shoe sales. Anyone who can't live with Akron and UA sharing a piece of LeBron with Columbus and tOSU is just going to have to live the rest of their lives unhappy and grumpy.

So what you are saying is, the only thing that matters is $$$$? That kind of sounds like the Tosu alma mater!

surprised nobody has thoughts on this atrocity that is going to take place today.

None other than it is an atrocity. When will LeBron give Akron's football team a pre-game speech or stand on the side-lines at our game? DOING THAT is REAL support for a program.

These LeBron apologists are absurd.

Epic. LeBron does a lot for Akron. Who cares if he also helps someone else. It's not like he was standing with Can't.

I actually hate OSU more than Can't.

Can't fans are mostly from Can't and are alumni/students. So at least I respect that.

OSU fans are everywhere yet none of them actually went to OSU.

...I can probably list about 15-20 more reasons but it's not worth it.

So only college graduates can root for a college football team? Sounds elitist. And I guess it sucks for any ten year old that wants to cheer for someone.

You must not root for any pro teams then? I mean, you didn't play for them, so what gives you the right to be a fan?

Also by your logic, you'd root for Can't to beat OSU. I can't wrap my head around any of this.

Yes, only college graduates should root for a particular college football team. The problem isn't the 10-year-old fans, it's the people that went to Akron, Ohio U, etc. that roots for OSU because they only cheer for a frontrunner. There's nothing admirable about a bandwagon fan. If you didn't go to college, root for a team in your area—spread the wealth.

Pro teams have no relevance in this discussion. Pro teams are paid. People root for college teams because of school pride.

Rooting for a fellow MAC team to upset a national title contender is a good thing. The more MAC teams win, the better it reflects on the entire conference.

Nothing elitist about it—just root for a college team for which you have a basic affiliation.

Maybe you should spend less time worrying about other people, and imposing your rules upon them.
