Dave in Green
Don't know if anyone has paid much attention to VCU's opponent tonight, Stephen F. Austin. We talked about them a little last season when there was a chance they might be our final Bracket Buster game before we ended up with NDSU. The Lumberjacks are giving VCU a heck of a battle tonight, so I took a look at their season record. They played a pretty weak schedule and lost to Texas and East Tennessee. But they won the rest of their games for a 31-2 record, ending the season on a 28-game winning streak. That's impressive even with a weak schedule. With 12 minutes left they were trailing VCU by a single point.
Dave in Green
And of course as soon as I post that VCU goes on a big run and, knowing VCU, probably put the game away. But the Lumbjacks did lead by 6 at halftime and made VCU work hard for most of the game.
Dr Z
Nobody is rooting for SF Austin more than this guy.https://tournament.fantasysports.yahoo.com/quickenloansbracket/2030973

Dave in Green
Stephen is for real. Tied the game with 3 seconds left to send it into OT. Heck of a game.
Dave in Green
Smallest team in the tourney with the heart of a giant. They have 3 forwards and 6 guards in their rotation. How can anyone not love these guys. Stephen slays VCU in OT.
Dr Z
Lewis won't sleep right for a month. Freshman gift wrapped mistake.
Dave in Green
I hate that Shaka got Shakaed. But that game was the definition of what makes March Madness great. Clutch play after clutch play. If the Zips ever played an NCAA tournament game like that, the ZN.o server would crash.
Dave in Green
It's looking a lot like #11 seed Dayton is going to be the only underdog mid-major to make it to the Sweet 16 this season.
Dave in Green
Wow, the great 3-point shooting Creighton team is getting totally embarrassed tonight. With 6 minutes left in the game, the Bluejays have hit only 3-18 treys while Baylor has hit 10-13. Super player McDermott is totally ordinary (11 points, 0-3 treys). Score with 6 minutes left is 67-41. Bye-bye #3 seed Creighton.
Dr Z
Speaking of the Sweet 16, did anybody happen to catch this piece Sunday morning?"Outside the Lines" tells the story of former coach Kevin Mackey, who took Cleveland State to the Sweet 16 for the first time before addiction led to his banishment from the top echelons of basketball for more than a decade. He is currently working for Larry Bird as a scout, and sounds like he wants to coach again. Somewhere like Cleveland State.
Dave in Green
At halftime, Dayton up 42-32 over Stanford and Wisconsin up 29-16 over Baylor.
Dave in Green
We have a mid-major in the Elite 8 as Dayton holds its halftime advantage to beat Stanford by 10, 82-72. Wisconsin increases its halftime advantage to eliminate Baylor, 69-52.
zippy5
I'm not sure I'd call any A-10 team a mid major.
Dave in Green
Mid-major is a fuzzy term that's not clearly defined. Some classify Dayton as a mid-major and some don't. The Mid-Major Madness Power 15 poll includes Dayton and the CollegeInsider Mid-Major Top 25 doesn't.

GP1
UCONN vs. Kentucky. Two teams representing corruption and sleaze in college basketball make the finals of the tournament that funds a corrupt and sleazy organization. Seems like a perfect finals to me. I'll read about it in the papers on Tuesday.
Dave in Green
I was pulling for Wisconsin to upset the usual suspects. Interesting point about the Badgers is that freshman Nigel Hayes has been their spark plug off the bench. The Zips coaching staff went pretty hard after Nigel as discussed in this thread. It's just really tough for UA to land a player like that when competing against Big Ten teams. Anyway, given a beggar's choice in the championship game, I guess I'd rather see the Precocious Ones lose as I don't think one-and-done is good for college basketball.
