MDZip
I generally like to recognize the sports that accomplish some pretty big things while not getting a lot of attention. As of this moment the women's outdoor track and field team sits tied for second with three competitors left (all in the pole vault) so while it's unlikely that the Zips will catch Oregon for the title, it is still quite possible for them to finish the NCAA runner-up. That's pretty amazing. And the men currently sit in 7th with no more events so the Zips conceivably could have a top ten finish for both the men and women. The only other schools that have a reasonable shot at doing so - perennial powers Oregon and Florida. Nice work again Coach Mitchell.

How do the women go from tied for 2nd with just three vaulters left, win the pole vault, and finish in 10th place? And the men are in 7th with no events left and finish in 20th? ??? Captain Kangaroo
"When you combine the two men's and women's scores, we're sitting about 11th or 12thin the country. That was huge for us,'' Mitchell said. "This has been our goal to be at that level program and we're going against schools with a lot more resources.''Tayala won the hammer throw on his final attempt. He was sitting third until uncorking a 241-1, breaking his own school record by almost five feet."It's a dream come true. It means so much to me and my family and the school. It still hasn't sunk in yet,'' Tayala said Monday. "The speed of my last attempt was a lot faster than I normally did, the orbit of the ball was a lot higher and obviously I had a lot of adrenaline going through it. I knew I had at least third place and I had nothing to lose.''Tayala, a junior, is a former high school quarterback and basketball player from McDonald, Ohio who didn't try the hammer throw until his freshman year at Can't State. His remarkable progression makes him one of the nation's most promising young throwers. That almost one-ups my title of "Intramural Legend?". Could there now be a McDonald grad more famous on the MAC landscape than me?Good to see a McDonald kid representing.
