New Quarterback? Former 4-Star Recruit

Tra'von Chapman, a former 4 star recruit to Pitt who played at Ashland last fall, wants to enroll at Akron. I say save the scholarship. He didn't exactly light the world on fire at the D2 level, and from the looks of his reason for transferring, he appears to be an entitled little turd.

He went to a D2 school knowing D2 schools can cover full tuition, but cannot provide living expenses. He then demands something he knows is unavailable, and abandons a program he made a commitment to. He was banished from the Pitt football team for similar entitled behavior. Perhaps forming an educated opinion of your own before attacking mine would be wise next time.

College football coaches do this every year. Why should we feel animosity against players who do it?

I don't know if we know if the money was unavailable. It may have been unavailable, but used to fund other players' scholarships. Do we even know if he has a scholarship at Akron next year? In any even, I'm sure Lee can continue to put up another runner-up finish in DII...always a bridesmaid, never a bride.

ITZ, as Balsy pointed out with his link to the original thread on Chapman, the rest of us have been forming our educated opinions over the past two weeks. Apparently your research didn't include that original thread or you would have simply added your opinion there instead of starting this new thread. Have you read that thread yet to see those other opinions? I spent quite a bit of time researching Chapman's background and have a pretty fair idea of the good and bad about him that's been published.

From the tone of your opinion, I'm guessing that your research didn't uncover the fact that Chapman was dumped by Pitt in late August right at the start of football season. Many of those who disapproved of Chapman's earlier transgression thought that Pitt did him wrong by stringing him on and not releasing him until it was too late to land with another major team. Have you considered that maybe Chapman ended up at a lower level because he rushed his decision due to the circumstances of Pitt releasing him so late? In retrospect, why would a 4-star HS prospect who had been recruited and offered by many high majors not end up being dissatisfied playing at a lower level without a top level scholarship?

Anyone is free to disagree with my opinion just as anyone is free to disagree with yours. No one should flatter themselves that their opinion is the only one that's educated.

Technically the way it works is that the NCAA gives athletes a 5-year window of eligibility to complete 4 seasons of intercollegiate competition. Once the 5-year clock starts ticking, anything that causes one to sit out a season such as a redshirt, transfer, etc., burns 1 of those 5 years of eligibility, leaving just 4 years of eligibility to complete 4 seasons of intercollegiate competition.
