Blue & Gold
Well Giles got the better of Agba, but that's okay. Giles is one of those players who would jump straight to the NBA (and likely be the #1 draft choice) if it weren't for the mandatory 1-year of college rule. Dave in Green
Not as much news available on Emmanuel as he doesn't play with a powerhouse team like Peter and Josh. But his season stats, player of the game awards, etc., can be tracked here. There's also a brief month-old video on YouTube showing Emmanuel (22) getting three easy slams. Check out how far above the rim his hands are on the last one. And finally, here's a link to an unedited video from MaxPreps with the first four minutes of one of Emmanuel's games where he shows off some of his blocking ability. Dave in Green
There's just one thing in that story (the part in bold below) that doesn't make sense to me:“He is the consummate player,” Joyce said. “A total player offensively and defensively. We are excited at how he has embraced this leadership opportunity. I know the University of Akron will be pleased that he will be with them the next four years.”Williams, who is 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds, is comfortable playing point guard and shooting guard with St. V-M, and will likely see more time at point guard at UA.“He is a talented combo guard,” Joyce said. “He can play the 1 [point guard] or 2 [shooting guard] and guard them, and he can guard a 3 [small forward] who is 6-5.”The Zips already have a great pure PG in Noah who's averaging 30+ minutes per game as a true freshman and has 3 full seasons ahead to get even better. They also have a nice backup PG in Antino who also has 3 full seasons ahead to backup Noah. The Zips are graduating 2 seniors in Deji and Nyles after this season, and they're both SGs. How does it make any sense that Josh would see more time at PG than SG when the Zips are already solid at PG but will be short on SGs next season? How does it make any sense that Josh would see more time at PG than SG when the Zips are already solid at PG but will be short on SGs next season?Dave,After following recent developments regarding Joshua, and reading this article, I have the same questions. It's actually pretty crazy to see a PG coming in, who will be carrying some high accolades, when there will already be two Soph. PGs with pretty meaningful freshman seasons under their belts. Could this be one of those "it's a good situation to have" kind of things? Did we underestimate the early contribution potential of the two current freshmen when we pursued Joshua? Did we possibly wrongly anticipate that Joshua would evolve into a 2 Guard?I'm sure we'll all be watching how this shakes out.
MDZip
Noah and Antino are also pretty good shooters, perhaps one of them could play the 2 as well?
Dave in Green
Well, we certainly don't want a PG who can't shoot or we would have just stuck with Carmelo. But the reality is that Noah and Antino were pure PGs in HS who happened to also be decent shooters, and Josh is a combo guard who can play both the 1 and 2 at a high level. That doesn't necessarily mean that Noah and Antino are forever locked in as PGs and Josh's only chance with the Zips is at SG. That will all get start getting worked out when Josh arrives on campus and starts working out with the Zips. The key question is whether Josh can be a better PG at the college level than Noah and/or Antino or if he brings more to the program as a SG along with Jimond. Looking back at Nyles' career, he was, like Josh, a combo guard in HS who ran the offense and scored in bunches. In junior college he ended up playing more SG than PG. At UA he was not successful in his first season as a PG and as a senior is now the starting SG next to a true freshman PG. Maybe Josh has a similar career path or maybe it's different. Hard to say at this point. But the simple facts are that going into next season the Zips are returning both of their PGs and losing both of their SGs. ZachTheZip
If Josh wants to play immediately, it will primarily be at SG with a few minutes a game at PG as a back-up. If he doesn't, he can redshirt as a PG.

zippyfan34
We also have Ivey next year who can play SG. It will be interesting to see who redshirts and how much people play. We can't really go from an 11 man rotation to 12 can we?
Blue & Gold
Noah & Joshua are going to be great for each other. We're going to have the two best PG's in the MAC next year. They're gonna be able to go at each other every day in practice.Iron sharpens iron.
ZachTheZip
Maybe Antino moves to SG. Despite having an 11-man rotation, Noah plays 30.8 minutes per game. The next highest is Pat at 24.3. That's 6.5 minutes more than anybody else on the team for Noah. How hasn't he hit a wall?
zipinnc
We lose Evans and Deji in the backcourt. I would guess we see Noah and Josh starting and Antino and Ivey as backups. Mix in a little Jake and/or Reggie and you've got yourself a pretty solid guard rotation.
zipinnc
I would think both new guards will be expected to play given the backcourt losses over the past 2 years. The real question is about the frontcourt rotation. With everybody back, do both freshmen redshirt or are one/both ready to contribute? Blue & Gold
With the bad news about Robotham probably putting a realistic end to any MACC expectations this year, I thought I'd just try to brighten everyone's spirits by reminding everyone we have the individual leaders of not one, but TWO teams ranked in the USA Today Top 25 committed to the Zips next season.Peter Agba of #22-ranked Greensboro County Day, and Josh Williams of #3-ranked STVM.Btw, Josh Williams & STVM just put the smack down on highly ranked Villa-Angela St. Joseph over the weekend.http://www.ohio.com/sports/high-school/high-school-basketball-st-vincent-st-mary-89-villa-angela-st-joseph-76-irish-turn-showdown-of-top-ranked-teams-into-showtime-1.569003(The game featured UA-bound Josh Williams & Kansas-bound Carlton Bragg, but the biggest, baddest star of the night was probably STVM junior Henry Baddley w/ 29 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 assists & a block.
