Akron, Can't State football teams both benefit from unintended break

“It’s a chance to take this program to another level,” he said. “Will it be a step backward? That’s in the eye of the beholder. We are building a program here and the next step — it’s a rivalry game. It’s big no matter what because you want to go out and win your rivalry game. “But a chance for us to take another step forward is always big. It’s always something you want to do.” The “step forward” would be a 6-6 record, enough for the team to be bowl eligible. “We’re keyed in for this football game,” Bowden said. “It’s a chance to win six games. We haven’t done that in a long time and we sure want to get there. Right now, we’re focused on that game and doing everything we can to win that game.” A 6-6 record would represent the team’s best since 2005, and a bowl appearance would be the Zips’ first since 1985. Right now, all of the guaranteed MAC-affiliated bowls are filled, but getting there is an accomplishment, Bowden said.

I don't think this would be our first bowl appearance since 1885.

Well, they printed it as 1985, not 1885. But still, 1985 wasn't a bowl year either.

The 2005 Motor City Bowl would be the last one, and the only one during the D-1A era, dating back to our start in that division in 1987. I believe the only previous "Bowls" were in 1968 and 1976 (I don't have a press guide in front of me), but I wasn't living in this area at the time. And those were as a D-III or D-II member.

By the way, I'm shocked that leading up to the most important Zips/Flushes game in years, there hasn't been a single post since yesterday at 3pm.

Sounds to me like there IS progress being made in the program ....... Just sayin

Happy Thanksgiving everyone ..... Thanks for the dialogue in my rookie season a a Zips fan !!! Looking forward to the "off season" analysis ...... Don't forget the off season !!!! Equally important ..... I believe this is the first off season with Coach Gildy as strength coach and Coach Stroud as the Director ...... But I am a rookie.

Big game tomorrow. I'm even thinking of going despite a 10 year ban on attending games there after being pimped by some dude at their beer garden table. Hundreds of poured beers lined up and I could not buy one as I did not have ticket and they just stopped selling tickets per the snotty nosed greasy haired man hater in the beer ticket booth. What a bunch of douche bags. Go Zips, beat em bad, they always deserve it.

That's a great story. Truth be told, I have not gone to the away Ken+ game in person since the early 90s. Something would always happen there, every year. When I was young I could laugh it off, but I even outgrew that. When you have a place full of douchebags (thanks for the appropriate term, Keener) and you add alcohol, you just never know what to expect. I decided to never spend a dime of my money in that place ever again, and also save the aggravation.
