Zips @ WMU 1-24-15

Recommended Posts

Very inconsistently called game on both ends. Deji's 3rd foul he was clearly shoved out of the way by Tava. Coach Hawkins not happy either as evidenced by the T with absolutely no warning. We're going to run out of big bodies quickly if they continue to call the game so tightly.

Zips win

Tough win, he young guys had to show up today for this win, and they were able to battle back being down late in the game...and hold on to a small lead in the final seconds of the game. I have a feeling this is going to be a really fun team to watch now, and the next few seasons.

Saved by Big Dog's free throw shooting. I really do like the way Coach Dambrot's teams respond to adversity.

Big Dog had the game of his career when the Zips really needed him. Congrats to the young man who has taken a lot of criticism here recently.

Great feed from Western Michigan. Terrible officiating! What a great win by Zips!! KD goes 11 deep most games and we all pull our hair on his substitutions. But today it turned into genius. We are missing 2 starters and Big Dog and Ibitayo get into early foul trouble. Our bench did the job. Really impressed with the play of BJ Gladden and Aron Jackson.

This is by far the best game that Antino has played. He is great at driving and dishing. He did not shoot any threes and really played well. The T was garbage as he was fighting through a pick and did nothing unusual to earn a T.

Big Dog played great and made all the foul shots at the end to win the game.

Just heard on radio that Big Dog suffered a scratched eye in practice yesterday and was questionable for this game. He said his vision was a little blurry. Throw in Aaron being sick and the Zips were really down to 7 players who were 100%. Good thing Isaiah and Aaron were able to play through their problems. That's the beauty of the 11-player rotation that gives everyone enough experience to step in and play when needed without hurting the team.

Very happy for the team, especially Big Dog, for facing a difficult situation and keeping their poise (enough) to win on the road, with plenty of reasons/excuses available to lose. KD mentioned in the post-game that it may have been easier, in a way, on him to be forced to go with a 9 man rotation (8 at the end). It'll be interesting to see how the PT is distributed when all 11 all back and ready to go (probably sooner than later).

The minutes weren't too far of today thank normal. I expect that everything will return to normal when Pat and Jake return.

It's nice to see the 9 man rotation not being questioned when UA wins.

Just a couple of thoughts on this one.

1) As per my previously stated desire to win at least a couple of league road games: One down....One to Go.

2) Based on my perception that WMU really lacked inside strength during the first game in Akron, what a perfect opponent for Big Dog to get something going !!

3) When you beat a team by 20 at home, it shouldn't be a huge surprise that you beat them by 2 on the road, even without 2 key players. This WMU team simply can't match up with us.

4) I'd love to see a few more MAC teams shoot 14 of 27 from the FT line, in their OWN BUILDING. That would surely be a recipe for a couple more road wins. That's almost unbelievable.

According to ESPN, WMU's average free throw shooting percentage is 0.686. Had they shot their yearly average yesterday, they would have won the game. Keep in mind that the officials did everything they possibly could to give them extra FT chances, but they still came short.

Anyways, it is a good feeling when you look at the MAC standings and see that WMU is 4-2 and realize that your team is responsible for their '2'
