3rd&twenty
I was thinking the same thing !!!What could they be looking for? A track record of successfully getting people enthused at D-1 college athletic events in the past? Please, we're talking about 18 and 19 yr. old kids that may have no work history beyond Burger King cashier. Just take ANYONE and EVERYONE that is willing to participate. Do you ever hire anyone? A college student absolutely needs a resume nowadays, even high schoolers need one. As for an interview, they need to see and speak to the candidate to determine if they not only have the desire for the position, but the right type of personality. I would have the desire for this type of thing, but I certainly don't have the personality for it. Unless I'm drunk. Too introverted.I think this is a good thing and a good (small) step in creating the type of environment we all want at games.

Only approved methods of fandom can be allowed.

Another layer of exclusivity on top of the Rowdies. And another way to keep an eye on the most passionate students. Only approved methods of fandom can be allowed.I don't agree. This looks more like a job than a student org. I have a feeling this group would be in various locations around the stadium cordinating cheers (or something of that nature) NOT a student org that sits in one location. Perhaps something that will do stuff like cordinating a section of fans to hold up signs that say "GO ZIPS" or something of that nature? IDK, I'm certainly at least interested to see what they want to do with this before I pass judgement on it.I like it.

skip-zip
Someone I know got an e-mail last night which explains a little more.It appears as if this is going to be somewhat of a JOB, and not an activity. I don't see any financial compensations, but you can receive academic credits, based on an individual's participation level. It got me thinking......isn't this basically what the Cheerleaders do? University-selected people assigned to the duty of "firing up the crowd"? I'll be interested to see IF anyone wants to do this, and IF they end up being effective at it. Not everyone has Wil's ability. And the "resume" thing still has me shaking my head. So would anything else that would make it complicated at all to get involved. But, I guess there needs to be some kind of selection process if this is a "job".

I think this has the potential to be something really cool and there are definitely students who will want to be involved with it. Like I said in another post on this topic earlier, this would probably to different things like pass out signs...banners...start coordinated chants which the Ak Rowdies should be doing but don't. ZachTheZip
I only see it working if student seating is enforced. Make them sit in their section, instead of scattered in GA seating between grumpy old farts and families with young kids who are only there to perform at halftime. Hilltopper
Do you really think that all those coordinated cheers and dancing we saw in those vidoes for the Maryland students just happened spontaneously? It takes someone to make those kind of things happen. I think this is a great idea.

It's not just student sections. EVERY section in which they would want these things to happen would likely have to fully contain willing and active participants. The "Two Standers" better get their leg muscles in shape this summer

Sportsjunkie330
If 700 UA students show up to the RubberDucks games, is the Zips athletic dept on the hook for the $5 bribe?
skip-zip
I think some UA students will surely wander down to the ballpark for something to do, especially for an excuse to get out and enjoy a nice day. But in early May, that will be over anyway.
Sportsjunkie330
The RubberDucks are wearing special jerseys Friday night and after the game they are auctioning them off for charity. What a novel idea.

What a novel idea.Zips did that ONCE...with the Pink Jerseys. I thought they'd do it with the Purple ones too...but it never materialized. K92
Why weren't there any support graphics when the Bengals made the playoffs last year? With UA support they probably would have beaten the Colts.

LZIp
Publicly supporting your local professional team with the best player in the world who is from your hometown and has some involvement with the program seems like a pretty damn smart idea to me.
