My sources are telling me that we are in negotiations with a major program for a home and away game to start this season with the Zips being the home team. I'm crossing my fingers on this one. ;) All that remains are the financial details. I can also report that everyone is in good physical and academic shape heading into fall semester. That includes Conyers and Wood.

I hope it is Pitt. I think it would be good to start building a rivalry with them in both hoops & football. They're close .. and it beats the heck out of playing Duquesne (no disrespect to the Dukes).

Pitt's schedule is full for 2007. They as of now have 1 open date for 2008, 2009. As both a Pitt and Akron fan, (raised on Pitt football, have Akron season tickets), I wish Pitt would drop Grambling and play the Zips next year.

reguardless if it's 2007 or 2008 it will be fun to watch.

:D Jamie Dixon, whom I know from his several years on Riley Wallace's staff at Hawaii, is is one of the classiest acts in all of college basketball. He's taking his team to West Point to start this season and honor his late sister Maggie, who took the Black Knights to the Big Dance last year. I'm SOOOO glad to see he and Keith on the same wavelength. Of course KD is not an unclass act himself. Way to go guys! A Pitt-Akron rivalry would be a great thing -- although Pitt fans wouldn't take to it very well. Tough on them! :nutkick:;)

Pitt at the JAR this year?!?!?!?! Bring it on! This could be that "marquee win" that you see the ESPN talking heads blabbering about in late February/early March when discussing a team's at-large chances.

My understanding is the game at the JAR is set for this season. Z.I.P. I'm sure that Pitt fans will have a hard time understanding why the game is at Akron.
The Zips played Pitt in the late 80's under Huggins. This was when Jerome Lane, Demetrius Gore, Sean Miller and Charles Smith constituted Pitt's top four players. In the first game, @ Pitt, the Zips had a 15 point first half lead, but lost it @ game's end.The following year they played at the Coluseium in Richfield. It drew about 11k. The game was pretty much a carbon copy of the first one. Zips got a big lead, then wore down at the end.The Zips are pretty-much equivalent to Pitt next season. You can wax poetic anout Pitt and the Big East...blah blah blah...but the simple fact it they're no threat to the final four. Can't beat Pitt the year they went to the Elite 8. Can't was manhandled by Pitt last year, but last year's Can't team, although MAC champs, wasn't very good.Pitt should get some credit for taking this series home/home. But it is a good test for them. They should play games like this. If they lose to the 2006-7 Zips, there's no shame in it. When all is said and done, we'll have 24-or-so wins. It won't be a "bad loss" for Pitt should it happen. Is it true parking for the Pitt game at the JAR will be $500.00 per space? Just a rumor I heard. ;)
