Zipgrad01 Posted November 18, 2015 Report Posted November 18, 2015 Mediocre, bad, semantics. They are 5-5....that is mediocre in my book Quote
you am i Posted November 18, 2015 Report Posted November 18, 2015 You judge a team by their body of work over the season. You can't look at one game - good or bad - and judge them by that one game. Toledo and BGSU are both tough teams with quality well-coached players. This game tonight is not over. BGSU can score points fast if they get on a roll. Quote
K92 Posted November 18, 2015 Report Posted November 18, 2015 Mediocre, bad, semantics.Whatever. I never meant they were bad. This whole goddammed thing started because I dared say that I expected more from them. I was under the impression from reading enlightened posts on message boards that they were good. After seeing them in person I realized they certainly weren't "good".But my own eyes must have deceived me. I now realize they are the greatest, best, most underrated 5-5 team in the entire history of all sports. There. I said it. Central should be in the playoff! Now, can we give it a rest? Quote

Not sure who is being judged off one game.Yes. BG can come back, especially at home in a rivalry game. Quote

ZippyforPresident Posted November 18, 2015 Report Posted November 18, 2015 Turnovers certainly decided that one. Falcon fast or not, it is virtually impossible to win when you give the ball away five times. It really should have been a much closer game. Quote
LoyalZIP Posted November 18, 2015 Report Posted November 18, 2015 Toledo is the best team in the league and may not even go to the title game. 1 Quote
MDZip Posted November 23, 2015 Report Posted November 23, 2015 Toledo is the best team in the league and may not even go to the title game.So Toledo is back in the rankings, do we root for them to win the MAC and with all the American Conference uncertainty maybe sneak their way into the G5 bowl position? Just thinking of the money that would bring to the MAC vs. giving a rival conference team a possible leg up. Kind of undecided. That would also mean that we'd have to root for Ohio which would put them tied (and by head to head - ahead) of the Zips if the Zips beat Can't. I don't want to root for that. So it could be that the MAC's highest ranked team won't make the MACC. Quote

Hopefully the new playoff rankings tomorrow show something different, because we should absolutely hope for Toledo to be the highest ranked G5 team. I'm just spit balling here, but it seems like the MAC falls behind about everyone else in football budgets save for maybe the Sunbelt. We need all we can to attract better talent and retain coaches; and I'm not speaking for just Akron, I'm speaking for the whole conference.Based on the current AP poll (the CFP poll will probably be slightly different), the only way Toledo gets in besides obviously winning out would be for Temple to lose to CT and then beat the winner of Navy/Houston in their championship game. Somewhat of a long shot but certainly plausible. Houston being ranked so highly after losing to 5-5 CT is sort of a joke. Edited November 23, 2015 by LZip Quote
MDZip Posted November 24, 2015 Report Posted November 24, 2015 After careful consideration I have decided what's best for the Zips is to have both Ohio and WMU lose with the Zips winning (odds of Toledo making the G5 slot are pretty small anyway). That would give the Zips a tie with CMU for the fourth best record in the league and probably gives them a little bit better bowl. Go Huskies, Rockets and Zips! Quote
LZIp Posted November 25, 2015 Report Posted November 25, 2015 Toledo comes in at #24 and the second highest rated G5 team. They need to be more concerned with what happens in the AAC than the MAC. The MAC might not mean much. Houston knocking off Navy would make things really interesting. Would a team with a bad loss at home, but a win over #15 Navy jump Toledo? Probably best for Temple not to win the AAC as they are ranked #25 unless they lose this week. Quote
LZIp Posted November 25, 2015 Report Posted November 25, 2015 Well about one of six things that need to happen for Toledo happened last night. Quote
MDZip Posted November 25, 2015 Report Posted November 25, 2015 ESPN has the conferences rated - the only G5 one (even though the table is obviously wrong, I modified it to correct it below) ahead of the MAC is not surprisingly the AAC. That put the MAC at #7, not bad considering most years we were #9. Now that NIU lost to BGSU, hoping enough upsets happen now to get Toledo to the G5 slot.1 Big 12 1 2 93.82 Big Ten 2 5 88.83 SEC 4 1 75.34 ACC 3 4 72.75 Pac-12 5 3 64.56 American 6 6 34.37 MAC 7 7 17.68 MW 8 8 16.59 C-USA 9 9 15.410 Sun Belt 10 10 13.9 Quote
zipsrule Posted November 27, 2015 Report Posted November 27, 2015 (edited) W. Michigan beats Toledo to create a 3 way tie in the West. With a win, CMU can also join that group. Edited November 27, 2015 by zipsrule Quote
LoyalZIP Posted November 29, 2015 Report Posted November 29, 2015 (edited) I guess I'll put this here: Reports are that Iowa State has hired Matt Campbell of Toledohttps://twitter.com/cbssportscfb/status/670848174999883776(Dumb move for him, if you ask me)We host them in 2017 then go there in 2018.
