2016 Recruiting

Recommended Posts

Well, I know that Coach Bowden and company are not overly outgoing with information regarding recruiting and don't believe in or cater at all to the recruiting sites. So I'm not to concerned from that standpoint

I'm not a whiz with Twitter searches but have not really been able to find too much traffic regarding offers, commits and visits to Akron

I do know and feel comfortable that these Coaches have been doing this for a long time and are working to put together a good class ..... I think we will see things pull together come signing day ........

That too. Thomas Cole apparently doesn't.

I thought the same thing when I saw that he decided to be a part of that football juggernaut known as Wake Forest. I hope they had a major he really wanted because wins are going to be few and far between.

"It's important to note that Nelson was offered by Illinois as an athlete, and not a quarterback. The Zips are recruiting Nelson to be their quarterback of the future, and seems to be an ideal fit within their offense."

Akron is a winner? One of those seasons in a blue moon does not put them over any P5 team. Especially when fans actually attend their games and they play on national tv on a regular basis and offer perks to athletes that Akron can't.

I hope the kid plays the position he wants, but like Cole, that is a tough option to turn down.

I think that's the decision these kids have to make, in a nutshell.

Do you go with a team that looks to be competitive in a "low level" conference? Or, do you go with a bad P5 team, be on TV, get more publicity, and be in a better position for a possible NFL career? Also, coaches can be very convincing about where they think their crappy program is heading under their leadership.

This is the primary reason that these kids filter back down again after a couple of years. You're still dreaming at 18 years old. At 20 years old, reality starts to seep in a bit more.

I think Antonio Brown and Kalil Mack, and scores of other successful MAC/NFL players would disagree with your contention that you are in a better position to get into the NFL via a Power 5 conference team.

As far as active coaches go, Amato has likely put more players in the NFL than anyone. Bowden knows what it takes to get there too. Akron has the staff and facilities to get anyone who wants to put in the necessary work into the NFL.

I'll give Illinois the TV and publicity edge, hands-down. If that's what's important to a recruit, go Power 5.

I live in Ventura County CA these days and yesterday went to an early movie, Revenant, which was excellent but that's not the point. As I came out of the theater and waited in the restaurant/lounge for my wife to go to the restroom I looked up at the TVs over the bar and one of them had Zips basketball playing WMU. Cool, but also not uncommon anymore. There is exposure for college FB and BB country-wide and MAC players who are worthy don't get overlooked. First round picks, Khalil Mack, the linemen from the MAC who went high first round in the last few years; in fact, didn't at least one of the MAC linemen go number one overall recently?

If I were a father of a kid in the tweener position I would advise him to go to a solid program that will have him on the field from early on, developing his skills and getting on film. With UA having turned the corner and in good hands, this should be among the mid-majors attractive to the good kids overlooked by the factory programs.

Yes. That would be Eric Fisher from Central Michigan at LT. He went #1 overall to the Chiefs the year before Mack was drafted.

You are correct. Akron has not been a historical winner. But there is a much better opportunity to win at Akron than there is at Wake or Illinois. Fact. There are no 800 pound gorillas in the MAC that are going to dominate for all eternity like there are in P5 conferences.
