Zips vs Hiram

A little down that I couldn't be there in person tonight. Someone who I know from my hometown, is the starting point guard for Hiram(#10). He's looking good so far. Hopefully Hiram keeps this pressure on us for a while, so we get somewhat prepared for Arkansas.

I feel bad for my hometown friend. None of his teammates look like they want to run the offense. He's taken three shots, all off of offensive rebounds or transition offense. As for our Zips, posts/forwards need to dominate the rest of this game. No excuses.

This game was a bad idea. Hiram was so bad that they were stuck on 4 for a good part of the first half. It was so bad the crowd was cheering when they scored. They were very undisciplined and shot the 3 ball whenever they had a chance.

Pat missed a lot of easy shots very close to the basket. Aaron had a very good second half and was probably the high scorer. I hate to say this but Josh Williams had several turnovers. Hopefully he will improve but the next few games are going to be very difficult for him. Jimond had a very good game but injured his knee. KD indicated that they had no idea how serious it was and the Dr. was looking at him. Kwan rebounded the ball well but I was hoping to see him get stronger and develop an inside game. After 3 games it is obvious that he is going to be more of a wing player than an inside presence.

The highlight of the game was watching Big Dog play point guard. KD indicated that he handles the ball well and he may be needed to bring the ball up when the other team pressures the ball.

Thought the highlight was when Frenchy dropped an F bomb during a commercial break on the webcast. A close second was when I dropped an F Bomb after another point blank miss by Big Dog.

All and all, it was a totally worthless 40 minutes of hoops. How about the next time we bring Hiram in, lets handicap it. Maybe 5 on seven or we wear patches over each players dominate eye, let the dance team play 5 minutes of each halt, etc, etc. The possibilities are endless...............................

Two things really stuck out for me last night.

1) Gosh, Pat sure did miss a bunch from close range, even a wide open air ball from 5 feet that seemed like it never got within a foot of the rim. We better not be going back to those days.

2) Holy Cow, does Ivey have incredible athletic ability? Bouncing off the floor twice consecutively to try to tip in a missed shot among the big men was eye opening. And his quickness. It's only the 3rd time I've ever seen him play now, and the things I am watching him do are blowing me away. I haven't seen enough to evaluate his overall game, but this guy can do things that most MAC players can't do. He'll help us win conference games early in his career if we can get him Starter minutes.
