AyYo
Good idea, in concept. We'll see how it goes. http://www.gozips.com/sports/fball/2016-17/releases/20160808mfmbc4
LZIp
I agree. I like the idea. I have to wonder if it will be just like every other promotion though. Go to see whatever/get whatever is being given out and go home.Hopefully I'm not. Those who stay will get to see a nice Zips butt whooping.

Dr Z
The music festival is FREE to the public. Gates to the Lee R. Jackson Track & Field Complex (next to InfoCision Stadium) open at Noon. Live music will be played from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Soul Asylum is best known for its Grammy Award-winning hit-single "Runaway Train", as well as notable hits "Black Gold" and "Somebody to Shove." Prior to Soul Asylum, live music will be provided throughout the afternoon by Akron rock legends The Bizarros, country-group Shooter Sharp & the Shootouts, and singer-songwriter J.D. Either. Akron radio station 91.3 FM The Summit is the official promotional partner for the Touchdown Music Fest. "We are excited to bring a fun-filled game day to the Akron community on Labor Day weekend," said Zips' Director of Athletics Larry Williams. "Great music provided by three awesome local artists and Grammy Award-winner Soul Asylum is the perfect way to kick off the Zips' 2016 football season. We certainly want the Touchdown Music Fest to grow into an Akron tradition which will bring the community and The University of Akron even closer together." Good idea, I hope it goes well. I saw Soul Asylum w/ the Meat Puppets at the Hard Rock Casino in Northfield Park last year, they sounded good.
ZippyforPresident
Forget Soul Asylum, the Bizarros are playing this?!?! I will definitely be there! For those of you that are unaware, Akron was once, for a brief moment, the epicenter of the modern music world in the late 70's and early 80's, spawning artists, musicians, and bands like Devo, The Waitresses, Chrissy Hynde, The Bizarros, Tin Huey, The Rubber City Rebels, Hammer Damage, Unit 5, Jane Aire and the Belvederes, Rachel Sweet, and even dating all the way back to Ruby and the Romantics from the 1960's. Also, if you haven't had a chance to check it out yet, Mark Mothersbaugh of Devo is currently displaying his Myopia exhibit until the end of August at The Akron Art Museum and it is definitely worth checking out. There is also a secondary component of it at the museum of contemporary art. I've been to both and they are awesome. Even if you're not into Devo, his art is very innovative and thought provoking. Excellent documentary about Akron's contribution to music that was on PBS a few years back: It's Everything, And Then It's Gone Edited August 10, 2016 by ZippyforPresident

ZippyRulz
UA music fest mentioned in this attendance article https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2017-01-03/the-unravelling-of-college-football-starts-with-all-these-empty-stadiums
skip-zip
Good Find. I also noticed that it mentioned that WMU never came close to filling its stadium this year. Amazing. There's definitely a ceiling on what a MAC program can attain in fan support. Some national relevance going into next year might have changed that for them. But, I expect a drop-off with the coaching change.

No, their stadium capacity is 30,200 and 26,146 was the announced attendance for that game.

That is pretty bad. I would really like to believe that if we were ever ranked #15 in the country & had a visit from College GameDay we'd have 30K.
