Per LZip:

Some more info...looks like he signed with Virginia out of high school. Got into a little trouble and transferred to JuCo after freshman year. He should have 3 years of eligibility.

247 currently has him ranked as a 3 star prospect. Shows no offers though?

And here is his HS profile

edit: Also good to see he will be here in the spring per Milwee.

Nick Johns could have stayed at Virginia, but he’d have to stop playing the only position he’s known since high school.

“We were at meetings after spring ball,” Johns told The Daily Progress, “and the coaches basically said they wanted to switch me to running back or linebacker.” Johns, a redshirt freshman quarterback, announced his decision to transfer from the Cavaliers on Wednesday morning, posting to Twitter that UVa granted him an unrestricted release to play elsewhere.

Kind of surprised no one is coming to the fairly obvious conclusion from this signing.  A former 3-star doesn't come to a MAC school unless he thinks he has a serious chance of playing right away.  With the way Woodson's season ended there has to be some question about his future, and this just adds weight to the Woodson skepticism.  There should be a 3-way battle for the starting QB position in the spring and summer, and I see that as a positive development -- we're lucky to have 3 talented guys, even if none of them is currently seen as a sure-fire star.

I think Akron was his only FBS offer. I wouldn't read too much into it. Even if Woodson starts next year, he will have 2 years of eligibility left and will be competing with Kato for the starting job the season after.

I agree. As much as I would like to see a healthy Tommy, I think it's fair to question whether he will ever be able to return to his former consistency and arm strength. I really hope he does but you have to give these other 2 guys a shot.
