Looks like the roster has been updated--

TE Darryl Long and WR Nate Stewart have been officially added--

Michael Kish is now a DE instead of TE

Might be a good idea to save time and just switch Darryl Long to DE as well.

And Newman Williams to DT.  Unless, of course, we want a 3-star recruit to just sit the bench for four years.  That could be the master plan, I suppose.

DE still looks like a glaring need..we really need to find a guy or two here. I think they can survive with Boxen and Jest and the other guys as depth on the interior. Looks like Otis Mounds' son is now listed on the roster. WR is a huge question mark. A known commodity in Wolf is back, but there is nothing known outside of that. Gladney could step up, but he rarely saw the field last year. Bickley showed some potential as a true freshman before falling off his Soph year and then leaving and then coming back. Coney is what he is I think, just a guy. I like Smith's potential based on what we saw last year but he needs to develop into something other than a go-route runner. Even so, the position group is senior heavy. Its hard for me to count on any other of those other guys who haven't seen the field yet.

You do realize he spent a fair amount of time injured last year, right?

This TE talk has me thinking. I wonder if the coaching staff would explore moving MTB back to WR. He underwhelmed some there I think (certainly wasn't bad though), but he was only a true freshman and sophomore at the time. Lane and Natson essentially forced him to switch positions last year in order to see the field. With the addition of Long at TE, and assuming he is solid, I think it might be a good idea to find a way to get as many playmakers on the field as possible, especially with the questions at WR going into the season.

I mentioned this on another thread back in early December:

2017 Wide Receiving Corps

Of course there will be a wide open competition for all of the WR positions next year. However, with Jerome Lane to the NFL and Kentucky transfer TE Darryl Long (6-4 246) eligible to play for the Zips in 2017, I think Mykel-Traylor Bennett may emerge in Lane's vacated starting X-WR spot. Austin Wolf should hold on to the starting Z-WR spot.

 December 5, 2016

---Additionally, I think Travon Chapman may emerge at a starting role -- possibly at slot Y-WR

--others to keep an eye on include Nate Stewart and Kwadarrius Smith

If this were my offense, I would explore adjusting my personnel packages at the line of scrimmage with the flexibility of MTB and TC. Assuming TC could lineup at WR and RB, we already know that MTB can lineup at TE, WR and H-back. With the same huddle, you could adjust to 00, 01, 02, 10, 11, 12... after getting to the line of scrimmage to see what personnel the defense was playing. That would be a tempting option for me to experiment with a couple times in each half.

Yes. Jerome Lane scored almost untouched when he lined up at RE, IIRC.
