...also loved the comments about this being the best mid-major rivalry in the country. ESPN color guy must have said it three or four times. Not sure if that's true but I like the fact that someone on ESPN sees this rivalry's value. National exposure is national exposure.

Agreed.  Akron and K.e.nt should play that up.  Maybe they should even copyright the phrase "best mid-major rivalry in the country."  Use it in advertising at least 3x per year: 2x men's basketball & football.  Anything... anything... to stoke interest & sell tickets.

Massillon and McKinley really play up the oldest high school rivalry in the country angle.  It makes it seem like more people are interested in it than there actually are.  But it helps perception and perception is reality.  We should be smart enough to do the same.

How would you confirm the validity of any claim that any rivalry is the best?  Heck, we have rivalries in our own conference alone that would say they are better and more recognized than ours.  Miami/OU, Toledo/BG, and Central/Western banter all the time about the grandness of their rivalry.  Unfortunately for all of us at our level, nobody cares outside of the people associated with the two schools.  Our rivalry with Kent is fun and meaningful to us, but does it contribute anything towards our National Recognition?  Unfortunately not.

I thought think Zips/Flashes is definitely the best Tuesday Night football rivalry in the country, regardless of division.  Word is they will be giving out t-shirts commemorating this distinction to the first 100 fans through the gate, which will be about half the crowd.
