Captain Kangaroo
Random, as per usual:* Always nice to beat Miami. It had been too long. Overall, Miami looks small and slow, a shell of the Prentice and R-berger led teams we've previously played.* Defense played very well. Nate Robinson got some extended PT and made the most of the opportunity. Best game, overall, by the D-line in some time.* Mackey is solid, yet again. The Carlton Jackson era has officially begun. Ug. The guy behind be began saying "Hey look...Jackson's warming up!" I replied "There is no way in hell they put Jackson in. We're semi-deep in our own territory...Luke has been moving the ball...two of his previous 3 incompletions were WR drops...no way in hell." In comes CJ...and his debut was not quite the debut Frye had vs OU 6 years ago. One of the worst coaching decisions I've seen in the Rubber Bowl in some time.* Ok...we're up 24-13 after a TD. We get a 5 yard penalty because the 25 second clock wasn't visible. Instead of trying for the XP to make it 12pt lead, we go for two? I don't care if the kicker missed two previous XP's, his chances of hitting an XP from 24 yards is better than getting a 2-point conversion from 7 out.* The excessive celebration penalty for the player slapping the hand of a student hanging over the rail was absolutly insane. That ref should be fired. Overall, a very poorly refereed game.* Plain Dealer sends no reporter to any Saturday MAC games.* Kennedy is a workhorse. But...can we get an RB that can bust a 65 yard run? DK runs tough the first 5 yards or so, but he is tackled way too easily in the secondary. * Nice job by the OL today! Good protection, and nice holes for Kennedy. Crouch is back a game sooner than I would have expected.* No sign of Chev Pace* Harvey's brilliant plays continue to cover for his freshman mistakes. * What is up with the separation of the GA seating and "Reserved?" I had to walk my reserved tickets over to some friends in GA that were prevented from sitting in our 30% full section. That's plain silly at the Rubber Bowl. * Best "total" game we've played this season...but still far short of our capabilities. We should have beat this Miami team by 25.Good crowd. Great day. Excellent tailgate atmosphere. F the very beatable Toledo. We'll see this week how badly our guys want to go to a Bowl game. This is a "must" win if we are tuely deserving of a bowl bid. gozips19
agreed on most of the points capt. robinson looked great today. i was very happy to see more reserves in the game. it kept the starters fresh. glad to see the student section rockin again but it seemed like they left a little early... i did see pace get in the game but only on special teams. and one final shout out to the softball team for challenging my friends in a game of beer realy! great tailgating good time! GP1
The Carlton Jackson era has officially begun. Ug. The guy behind be began saying "Hey look...Jackson's warming up!" One of the worst coaching decisions I've seen in the Rubber Bowl in some time.* No sign of Chev Pace All excellent points. I'm a huge JD fan, but putting in CJ at that point was just the wrong thing to do. A good team would have burried us with a TD and then squashed our offense after that. CJ had two weeks to prepare both physically and mentally for the game. To say that he $#!+ his pants would be an understatement. Not only did he fumble, but he seemed to have trouble with that whole running thing we expect football players to be able to do. When I was in school, Hal Hunter (now OL coach with San Diego Chargers) used to say, "You're only as good as your last performance". CJ's performance was a disaster and can wait until next year when he is not only physically ready to play, but also EMOTIONALLY ready. He is going to be good some day, now is not his time and I don't want to watch the junior varsity play. I'm not willing to risk losing while he finds his sea legs.As far as your post about Pace, do you have the web page set up to automatically print that upon entering a key word? If you don't, you should. It will save wear and tear on your fingers.
akronad
Passing thoughts 1. defense was very soilkd all evening2. offense still looked sloppy at times and it seemed as it they were not hitting on all cylinders.3.officials-very poor crew4. penalties-regardless of the incompetency of the officials 93 yards in penalties is way too much.5. kicking game-unless JD can get someone consistent of put the ball between the uprights, every game is going to be scary.6. the PD does send someone to cover some of the Zip games. Elton Alexander. My impressions from last night are a little better than 2 weeks ago, but until we stop committing the foolish penalties, get a consistent kicker and play better on offense, we will be lucky to have 7-5 record. Blue & Gold
* What is up with the separation of the GA seating and "Reserved?" I had to walk my reserved tickets over to some friends in GA that were prevented from sitting in our 30% full section. That's plain silly at the Rubber Bowl. Though we only had GA tickets, before kickoff my group went over to the Reserved seating and found some nice 30-yard line seats. Didn't hurt a soul. LOTS of room over on the Reserved side. In the RB, no one should care where we sit; maybe designate the Westside middle 3 sections as Reserved, but other than that the RB should be GA. It should all be GA with first come-first served on the prime seats. At halftime, we wandered over to the GA section and were unable to return to the mostly vacant Reserved section. The GA was packed and we squeezed in around the 10 yard line. My point? From the GA section the Reserved section looked embarassingly empty. Next year they should just let us sit where ever we want, like in years past. But the crowd was great! Much better than I had anticipated, so I was pleasantly surprised! With a) a new stadium, good weather, and c) a winning team there's no reason we shouldn't average 30K at home! And the AK-Rowdy section sounded GREAT from Reserved seating (which is the team's vantage point!) GREAT JOB ROWDIES!!! YOU GUYS ROCKED SATURDAY NIGHT!!! Way to create a true home-field advantage for the Zips!

Dr Z
17,721 at the game.Nice crowd.Anybody have a guess as to student attendance?
Z-P
You guys really think that was 17K?There were sections which looked packed, but the huge center Reserved Section on the home side was really wide open.I've seen lots of RB crowds, and seen lots of "official" counts over the past 10 years, and that was a 12K crowd IMHO. Don't get me wrong, I want the record to say 17, but I just don't think it was.On the game..............any win against those a-holes gets big ups over here.I was surprised how many turd fans came out BTW.And, one more quickie...........the admin can lose those Nazi's who control the Reserved seating at least at half time..........that's weak! C'mon! This ain't Yankee Stadium we're talkin about here! I want somebody sitting around me to generate some body heat and break the wind (not that break the wind dufuss)! Jalapeño Zippy
After talking to some on the facilities staff I found out why they have the GA all on one side and the other side is reserved. Simple, looks better on TV. All the cameras are on the reserved side and they are shooting across the field towards GA. The fuller it is the better it looks on tv, internet, etc... and will help with recruiting for those who cannot make it and will help with Akron getting more games on tv and on the internet.I think it is a great idea. :thumb:If you want to sit on the reserved side, buy a reserved ticket. Both games this season I had randoms sitting in my seats. Had to make them move because they had GA. Yes I could have sat elsewhere but it's the principle, I bought those specific seats. There is nothing wrong with sitting on either side. You can see the same stuff on either side. As much as I have disagreed with some of the decisions made by the Athletics Department this one I agree with. Kudos!

Don't get me wrong, I want the record to say 17, but I just don't think it was. If the 1st game was 16,00+ then Homecoming was 17,600+. I just don't think that there was that many for either game. I agree with Z-P the "actual" attendance was closer to 12K than 17K, but what the "H" ..... we need that 17K figure.
bobbyake
I have no idea how they account for every student. My group was really drunk and just kind of walked in at the same time. I know they have a clicker but there was a lot of heads all at once. The student section was also packed for the most part. It was a fun time. I'm not sure about the next home game though, it starts at 1:00????? I get out of class at 11:45. No tailgating for me this week. They should move the game back to
