Fall 2022 Mens soccer schedule

Recommended Posts

We can’t even host the MAC tournament anymore.  All I know is that used to be an enjoyable weekend in Akron and now we can’t even host or win a a tournament game.  If Akron is so good how can we lose to these teams?  Maybe you can say that we play down to teams…maybe that is true but smaller schools are becoming better.  These foreign recruits are a game changer (see Marshall’s national championship).  How many MAC teams won in the first round in the NCAA tourney?  We didn’t - we lost at home to a sub par team from California.  Let’s just win baby - forget who we play.  Somehow these teams with an awful schedule end up being high in the RPI.   I don’t want to do that but let’s win them all before we cast stones.

So it looks like the fall/spring split season isn't happening this season.

Correct.  But it will happen eventually, with or without the NCAA. Anticipate Spring tournaments to gain influence and popularity until the NCAA builds a sidewalk on top of the beaten foot path.

Yup.  That's why I hate 'em so!  Especially Yeags Sr., the most arrogant coach of all.  Taught Bobby Knight every move!

I take it you have never encountered Charlotte's HC Kevin Langan. He is the biggest asshat Ive ever seen. It made a lot of us smile watching him on the sidelines the last 3 years trying to figure out how Marshall passed Charlotte by when before 2019 they had 12 winning seasons from 1979-2018.

I agree that the MAC is a sh*t show. I'm not sure that I like the idea of going independent, but I'd like to see the MAC quit sponsoring Men's Soccer as the Sun Belt did in 2021. I'd prefer to see the Zips join Conference USA, the Horizon League, or other conference as an affiliate member as opposed to being in the ever-changing MAC. This constant churn of not having enough MAC teams is awful. However, I don't see our AD fixing this. I'll leave it at that as he has done well at putting me back in my place of apathy toward anything other than Zips Men's Soccer. I wish him well and hope his approach is successful. I think, as others, that he made a great hire with the FB coach and wish for our Alma Mater's sake that it plays out well. As far as the AD himself, hopefully, others appreciate the "smart AD"'s interactions with them better than I have.

As for Zips Men's Soccer ... Thanks to our coaches and players, I've come to really love the game and continue to be passionate about it. Our men's soccer players are the greatest guys showing how grateful they are for all of us who support them. Supporting them at Akron (home and on the road) and beyond is my happy place. I just wish I could keep up with all of our former players, but there are too many of them in too many places for me to follow as much as my heart wishes I could. I wish them all the best on the soccer field or wherever life has taken them. Go Zips!!!

Well CUSA soccer is dead as of now. Marshall, ODU, Kentucky, South Carolina and WVU will form part of the Sun Belt out of CUSA. Those that still had soccer there in FIU, UAB, FAU and Charlotte will join the AAC for 2022. I guess that leaves Liberty still in the ASun. They along with FIU would have been the only CUSA schools to sponsor soccer in CUSA come 2023.

Come 2023 Sun Belt Soccer will look like this:

JMU

ODU

Marshall

Coastal Carolina

GA Southern

GA State

WVU

South Carolina

Kentucky

UCF (2023 when they join the B12)

If it was possible I would love the Sun Belt become only second conference with 12 members, as of right now only the ACC has 12 members. I would love to add Akron and FIU. It is gonna be a great conference as it is with Akron and FIU it would be just that much better.

Free-for-all in non revenue sports are going to look more like this conference wise. Really hope we can jump into this conference for soccer.

The only school in the new Sun Belt never to make the NCAAs is Georgia Southern. ODU has slipped in the last few years but they won CUSA twice in 2014 and 2017.

When UCF joins in 2023 this will be what the Sun Belt Schools have done in the last 3 years:

19 NCAA Bids

8 of the 10 ranked in the Top 25

7 of the 10 ranked in the Top 20

6 of the 10 ranked in the Top 15

4 of the 10 ranked in the Top 10

3 of the 10 ranked in the Top 5

2 of the 10 ranked 1 or 2 (Marshall raked 1, WVU ranked 2)

1 National Title

In a year or so I think the Sun Belt will be just behind the ACC in soccer and possibly challenging the ACC for the top spot. I also think the Sun Belt will surpass the Big East as they are more top heavy with Georgetown and Marquette dong most the conference lifting.

The Big East would be another solid conference to join. Either way, we need to find a way into either conference.

I'm sure this has been discussed somewhere already but I haven't been on here in a while...

Is there only a MAC title game for the top 2 this year? No 4 team tournament? I see the championship page on the conference site lists only one day not a semifinals day.

Yes, that is correct. With the MAC only fielding 5 Men's Soccer teams this season, the 2022 MAC automatic NCAA Tournament berth will be decided by 1 additional game between the top 2 teams at the end of the regular season, during which each team will play the others home and away. Given the regular season format, the 1 game "playoff" seems silly, but it is the MAC.
