New DL Verbal

Recommended Posts

The Zips recently received a verbal from Youngstown Rayen DE Marquinn Davis. He goes about 6' 6", 245 lbs and runs a 4.7 40 yard dash. He had offers from both Toledo and K.e.n.t. The Zips were the first to offer, which was a big factor in his decision to attend U of A. He also runs hurdles on their track team.

With this verbal, we moved ahead of Miami in recruiting and now lead the MAC on both Scout.com and Rivals.com. We now have 5 three-stars on Scouts, which is more than we have ever had before. This is great news. Signing day is just 18 days away and I have a hunch we will see a few suprises before it is all over. We'll just have to wait and see. If anyone sees a potential recruit around campus, try to be friendly. You would be amazed by how much bearing friendly students and faculty have on tough decisions when choosing between two schools.

we were already ahead of them.. this verbal is nowhere t obe found; not even his name. any idea? Cap'n i DO believe you because i know you are a credible source but is he a guy used to fill a need like small-time, project, type of player. Is there a link?
He has only played football for two years. He's a bit of a project, but his combination of size and speed was immensely impressive in our on-campus camps. People are pretty excited about him.

I agree! Though I've never spoken with a recruit, per se, I have spoken to a few players, and they are generally friendly guys who enjoy talking to fans. They, naturally, enjoy being told how good they are and that they had a good game. They're not stuck up, they, like anyone would, enjoy the attention. So yeah, be nice and friendly and encouraging to any recruit you may see around campus!

the kid plays way too high
I agree with this to a point. I look at someone like Jason Taylor and he probably STILL plays too high but obviously remains effective. However if this guy's speed is for real, I think we just found ourselves the outside pass rush that has been missing for a while (I don't consider Jermaine Reed piling up his sack stats against Buffalo and the like as constituting a consistent outside rush). Yeah baby!!!

Captain, do you know when Toledo offered him? I've never heard anyone talk about him.

Hopefully he develops better than the former Oakland city high hurdles champ. OK -- what the heck WAS his name?? :P

JT's HS PositionsI don't ever recall hearing that Taylor played QB at any level. The link states the home-schooler (I believe his family had to go to court to have him be allowed to participate) played TE and Safety at Woodland Hills, PA (and basketball as well, which he also did for one season at UA). I can still hear Faust saying in his raspy tone, "this kid can run like a deer!" when speaking of him early on.

You're right about Taylors position, my bad! :wall: My point is that you never know what can happen and its always a good idea to recruit athletes who have speed.
