Not sure what that was about. To my knowledge he does not currently hold an offer from us.

My thinking: that's nice, but I'll take quality over quantity. Would you say that is on the mark, or would you say Miami & Toledo's early numbers are a harbinger of how the 2024 classes will ultimately shake out? (Really impossible to know for sure, I know... but just trying to make some interesting conversation.)
Blue & Gold
Miami signed Devin Bell. Idk if he has the athletic talent (I don't believe we offered Devin) to help us reach the top of the MAC mountain, but I've met Devin & he's the kind of person you want on your team and at your university. Polite, humble, smiling, well-spoken, mature. He's also a mountain of a young man. Built like an ox. I can only imagine what he's going to look like 3 years from now. 🤯 I'm still crossing my fingers for Hoban LB Rickey Williams. True stud. (Really impossible to know for sure, I know... but just trying to make some interesting conversation.) Agreed. We should expect our HS recruiting class to always fall somewhere around 15 commitments. JUCOs are likely to be added when unexpected depth issues arise. We’ve only offered 3 out of the 30 2024 MAC commitments. That’s not to say those players aren’t good enough to play here because many of them definitely are, but our staff knows what they want to add to this program and that may not always 100% align with what other MAC schools are looking for. I think the early commitments have gotten great advice. Go ahead and commit to a school you’re comfortable with and can always entertain other offers. That would have been frowned upon a decade ago, but the game has changed. The transfer portal players take up about half the spots that were formerly used for HS prospects and it’s more important than it’s ever been for HS kids to assure themselves they have a spot. The upper echelon players have the luxury of waiting it out when probably about 80% do not. Nearly every MAC school should have 4 to 5 2024 commitments by the end of May. We may not have landed any yet, but the time is coming. It usually goes in waves. Certainly nothing to worry about, but fun to track.

Nice size already and still has a year of HS remaining, I can't wait to see him after a year in the Akron weight room. I really like how he has great instincts and a nose for the ball. He diagnoses plays well. Edited May 5 by blueandgold
MangoZip
Couple things…amazing that Miami has that many commits this early in the recruiting cycle. Doesn’t necessarily mean that it will still be the top class in the MAC but they are off and running. Second thing - is Rivals ever going to update the Akron logo?? Wtf…it’s been a year now Edited May 5 by MangoZip

Wtf…it’s been a year now You’re 100% correct in regards to recruiting. Miami has landed some high quality players, but it doesn’t guarantee anything. In today’s world portal recruiting is just as important (both in retention and additions) as HS recruiting and there is a long way to go. I can’t say when Rivals will update anything. They are still working to update a system that’s been around since the early 2000s. I’ve pushed for a MAC conference site to report on all conference happenings, as well as create individual team recruiting links (similar to 247), but I haven’t gotten much feedback on either of those. catdaddyp
Bump for updates. Still a number of players that need ratings. Keep in mind that if all of Akron’s classes consist of 60-70% from the portal, the likely hood of being ranked #1 or #2 (when it comes to HS/JUCO recruiting) is slim. We just won’t have the numbers to push up the total points. That being said, if Rivals ever finishes the ratings for our late JUCO commitments in the 2023 class, there is a good chance that class would be #3 in the MAC. catdaddyp
Kent has caught up with us in portal entries with 8. I’m guessing Kent and NIU will have the highest in the MAC this year. NIU has a high number of HS commitments, which makes me think their staff is expecting a number of departures.
