They should know basic fundamentals even before putting on an Akron jersey. Why they choose to disregard them? Who knows. Simple. Football players are less coachable than ever. It's a societal problem.
MDZip
So WMU just beat Buffalo, the only other conference undefeated, to take over sole possession of first at 3-0. A team the Zips should have beaten!

Blue & Gold
I was taught in 8th grade to not field the punt if it was inside the 10. Stand on the 10 and if the punt is over your head you simply let it go. My coach was the assistant middle school principle who was also the wrestling coach and assistant track coach. Here we are playing D-1 college ball and how many times have we fielded the punt inside the 10 the last few years? I'm so confused. It's so simple. I'm aggravated and dumbfounded. I can't wrap my head around the issue. 4
ZippyRulz
I can't wrap my head around the idea that players are coached on what to do and ignore the coaching and do what they want. Giving the benefit of the doubt to both sides, it may be an optimistic hope that someone can break free to the house on any given punt return.

We all know the players are coached on how to field punts. We all see the poor decisions the players are making game after game after game. Inescapable conclusion: the players are ignoring the coaches. Why? Pick one: no respect for the coaches, no discipline, no consequences for bad decisions, no hope for a better future at Akron so do whatever you want. You pick the answer.

I wasn't a future D-1 athlete & so never dominated like I'm sure all these guys did their respective high school teams & competition. So when the punt went over my head at the 10 it was easy to let it go because I would just breathe a sigh of relief (catching wobbly high school punts is the worst 😂), whereas these guys probably have the confidence to really think they're gonna break the big play every time.
