UA1996MAENG
So why can't/couldn't the MAC keep men's soccer as a viable sponsored sport? Money I guess.....😑
Reslife4Life
If we kept the 2018 MAC in tact and added UMASS that would be a banger of a conference. WVU, WMU, and SIUE all have been great after leaving the MAC

They are in the Sun Belt but prior to the MAC's demise in men's soccer, the Sun Belt was pretty far behind. Only recently with their additions of Marshall, WVU, and now Kentucky & South Carolina have they become a viable conference.  We'll never know, though, because we have Steinbrecher as a commissioner.

I'd say it worked out well for us. The question is whether with UMass coming in giving us 5 full-MAC teams, would they try to reconvene MAC sponsorship of M soccer?

2016 was Buffalo's last Mens soccer season. I can't imagine they would try to restart MAC Mens soccer. No way we would come back and they know that. I can't imagine WMU would want to come back either. The Valley is a solid conference for them. And that 2022 season was terrible, with the 1 game " conference tournament"
zippy-claws
Trust me, The MAC has no desire to re-add Men's soccer, and I believe Men's Swimming and Diving and probably Track will be "un-sponsored" real soon. Wrestling too. I have a hard time with the affiliate teams on the wone's side for Lacrosse. This season Championship match featured two non-legacy teams. And why would we leave a solid conference with great competition and a dozen teams, which gets multiple NCAA bids for a 5-team league, where we either have to play 4 home-home matches to fill the schedule or find 10 out-of-conference matches. It's a blessing, as @ZippyRulz and @Reslife4Life mentioned above, that the MAC dropped men's soccer.
MDZip
As a side note all three Big East teams are also still alive.
