Staff offered him out of HS, good height at 6'2" would complement Williams and Mason well but didn't have a recorded catch at ODU.

FBS vs FCS would be my guess

Good point LZip. I never claimed to be the brightest. I assumed he decommitted before the offer from Akron came but you could be right.

He had decent numbers. I'm willing to give anyone a chance.

Looks like Myers went the JUCO route out of high school before landing at ODU, while Hilburn will be coming straight from JUCO. Both receivers were very productive at that level, albeit as two different types of players. Hilburn looks like a guy who could step right in on both kickoff and punt return. If Brookhart can get similar production out of them as they had in JUCO, then these two commitments should be excellent additions.

By my count this currently gives us 14 signings.

10 offense:

6 OL

1 QB

3 WR

4 defense:

2 LB

2 DB

We still need some DL and an upperclassman QB.

Ps. Zips' OL coach Joel Rodriguez is one hell of a recruiter.

It appears he started 7 games at Center this season. Not sure if he missed the others with injury or lost his spot. I would think he lost his spot and that's why he's transferring.

Likely-- we got him over WKU and UAB.

According to PFF, he played in all 12 games and started two. He was targeted 31 times, giving up roughly 61% completion and over 420 yards. That’s not good. For comparison, Reed was targeted 40 times, allowed about 57%, but gave up only 205 yards.

Newsome clearly has the physical ability. I’m hoping the rest of his game can get cleaned up and he produces at a higher level for us.

Do we know if we get DeWalt back next year? If so, I think we’re set on paper at least at starting CB. Catrell White was the day 1 starter last year (and was looking really good), but has had season ending injuries each of the past 2 seasons. Hopefully he can stay healthy.

DeWalt should be out of eligibility, but with all the rule changes, who knows? If that’s the case, it leaves White, Thomas, Newsome, K. Johnson, plus the incoming freshmen. We carried six cornerbacks last year, so I’d expect another addition or two.
