Unfortunately, they just don't have any D1 caliber players. Not sure the solution to turn this program around. I feel a need to object to this statement. I know there is much frustration that the Women's team hasn't been competitive in the MAC in a long time. However, the idea that the players are not "D1 caliber" is based on that frustration I think rather than actual analysis. I believe virtually every recruit over the past 3 years or so has had ECNL experience, which is the highest level of competition in girls youth soccer. The team's talent is sufficient to compete at the middle of the Mid-American Conference, or at least the 3rd quartile. They are not the worst MAC team on paper. Emma King had, what, 186 goals for Manchester High School? UMass who we lost MAC game 1 to is one of the league favorites. There's no reason why the team can't come away with a few conference wins over the next 6 weeks. Then, hopefully the AD comes up with a full-time coach with the resumé that deserves to coach a program with Akron's facilities and potential. It looks like the women draw some fans. I hope the community is behind the program and the department sees the obvious potential in Women's Soccer at Akron. Quote
