csims0917 Posted Tuesday at 01:04 AM Author Report Posted Tuesday at 01:04 AM I had a feeling Kent was going to break out today. Up 36-15 already with 5 to go in the half. They are just booking it down the court and chucking up for 3s. I think that Troy game will be a lot like the Arkansas state one last year for us. Quote
csims0917 Posted Tuesday at 01:25 AM Author Report Posted Tuesday at 01:25 AM UNCW got it within 9 at half Quote
Let'sGoZips94 Posted Tuesday at 01:27 AM Report Posted Tuesday at 01:27 AM Just now, csims0917 said: UNCW got it within 9 at half I turned it on with 4 minutes to go in the half. Kent was at 38 pts, up by 18. They finished with 43 pts and are up by 9. This will be a very interesting second half. Also, Kent's ESPN+ announcers are atrocious. Quote

Let'sGoZips94 Posted Tuesday at 01:46 AM Report Posted Tuesday at 01:46 AM Kent is not a good defensive team. They will only go as far as their shooting. Safford is banged up again this year. Quote
Let'sGoZips94 Posted Tuesday at 02:31 AM Report Posted Tuesday at 02:31 AM UNCW won't end up very high in KenPom or NET. Not a very good team. Kent will fold the moment they play a good, athletic defense. Quote
csims0917 Posted Tuesday at 02:51 AM Author Report Posted Tuesday at 02:51 AM For now they are 125 in kenpom. The MAC is doing very well in OOC Quote

I'm not saying whether or not UNCW is good, but I wouldn't place too much stock in kenpom this early into the year. We should have a better picture by mid December. Quote
csims0917 Posted Tuesday at 02:59 AM Author Report Posted Tuesday at 02:59 AM I meant Kent is 125. But yes we will see. Kent has a cake schedule outside of Purdue. I don’t seem them losing a game (without blowing one ofc) until January outside of Purdue Quote

Illini Zip Posted Tuesday at 05:49 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 05:49 PM Maybe Buffalo is a good example that NIL alone can’t buy you a successful program. I have to think that university has some wealthy alumni. Quote

Kent has NIL, too, which I only know about thanks to the series of Pinky's Pathetic Promos this offseason where we saw a sad clown beg for money essentially after being rejected by Fordham (allegedly). I have to think that university has some wealthy alumni. Their issue was picking fruit one too many times from the Bobby Hurley/Nate Oats coaching tree. Eventually, the fruit soured with Whitesell and it killed all the momentum with their program. This is the exact reason why hiring Groce was such a big hire for Akron to sustain what KD had built. Canada's South Campus doesn't have a very strong athletics backing, so unless they strike gold with coaching hires (they've done well in football, too), they'll always find themselves with a middle of the MAC ceiling at best. Illini Zip Posted Tuesday at 08:14 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 08:14 PM (edited) That surprises me. Although I can see Buffalo being more of a football and hockey school. Edited Tuesday at 08:14 PM by Illini Zip 1 Quote

I think the Bulls might be turning things around. Because of their recent past, they have a pretty good schedule with teams that thought they were garbage. DePaul learned the hard way ... Vermont and St. Bonaventure are still to come. But unlike the preseason MAC favorites (Miami, Akron, Kent, Ohio) who rivalry aside only play each other once, Buffalo has two games each with Miami, Akron, Ohio and UMass, so they could still be a .500 team ... but also a very tough team to deal with if they make the MAC Tournament. Frankly, I think that's good for the MAC. Quote
