I like it all except for this part
Dials rushed the ball up the floor, drove the right side and whipped his pass in the lane to Smith for the game-winner.
Is it just me or are they saying that Dials passed the ball to (Omni) Smith... who is a flush?
Sure sounds like it.So much for proof reading. That's OK, as long as he got the score right!

Ok. It's not perfect. :D It's just better than the usual write up we get where it looks like the AP had someone put together two paragraphs by looking at a box score. Regardless...that's a regular season sweep, nation. And God, does it feel GOOD!

a few quick thoughts. made it down to the game and the atmosphere was electric.sat up in the nose bleeds but could still hear the rowdies great job tonight! i never thought i'd say this but akron won in spite of dru today. he looked lost much of the game. dials and wood were huge that goes with out saying. great to see nate gut it out but does anyone know if he could shoot if he needed to? absolutely loved hearing on the post game that labron was getting booed by Can't State fans as akron ran off the court! also heard K.D. talk about some family issues, does any one have any info on that? haven't felt this good since i was up in the D for the mcc! akron has to MO, the rest of the conference has been put on notice! can't wait for thursady! :screwks::screwks::screwks::screwks::screwks::screwks::screwks::screwks:

Great game in a pretty hostile environment. The officiating (what a surprise!!) sucked. Thank goodness it kind of evened itself out. Dials got mugged several times and at the end of the first half he was body slammed. At the end of regulation, with the score tied, one of the officials left the court as he apparently thought the game was over. One of his fellow officials had to retrieve him and remind him the score was knotted up. I wonder if he was headed for the "BG shower"??Our guys and their sticktoitiveness was the difference. Now we need to maintain the intensity next week and beyond.Go Zips!!

Guys. As an old timer, I will say that this is our best win since we joined the MAC in the early 90's.Someone on here referred to Dials as a WARRIOR. He is that, and then some. It was nice to see him and Woods decide the game tonight. They are going to be the key members of this team next year. Those steals by Dials towards the end of regulation were HUGE.The traveling call on Linhart with under a minute left in regulation tops every bad call that the MAC refs have made all year. Someone needs to look into how incompetent these guys are. Why was the game so close? ALLOWING OFFENSIVE REBOUNDS. Can't is a very athletic team. It's something we need to prevent in the future.I want to give A BIG HIGH FIVE to The Univ. of Akron Dance team. I was sitting with a big group of alums at the Winking Lizard in Fairlawn. And, the girls from the dance team were there, and promised us that they would do their dance routine to our fight song if we won. And they did just that, with all of us clapping to the song as they did their thing. THANKS GIRLS...it was a great capper to a fantastic evening.Have we swept Can't since we've been in the MAC? I'm not sure. But this game was SWEET!! I can't even sleep (and Dambrot said during the post game show that he isn't going to sleep either) because I really want to enjoy this one.Go Zips........and.......... :screwks:

I wasent able to get to the game, but i watched every second on the TV. Was it just me or did alot of the players look more tired then they usually do. I can understand it was a hard faught game and that it was a more uptempo game, but even in the early stages of the game they looked tired. I seen conyers get the ball stolen from him, and he just threw his arms in the air and didnt even attempt to run downcourt to make a defensive play.... maybe that is why he doesnt play much. I was very glad to see linhart back, but had a moment when i had to hold my breath, as he went for a loose ball and it went out of bounds an it showed him on the Tv stop an grab his thumb in pain. then they went to a time out an when they came back he wasent out there on the court..... i am hoping that no more damage was done to it. This showed that we are able to win on the road in a tough enviorment, and we even did it without our floor general for the last 2:27 of regulation and the whole overtime. Lets hope we can keep this MO going in the tourney. Lets make sure we pack the Q and support our zips as they try to make history and break the curse of not being able to win in the tourney! We beat Cant state twice in the season for the first time in i dunno how long, now i will drink to that :CK_brew: . and as always.... :screwks:

Here are my regular pos-game thoughts...or follow the link for the nicer looking version lol-----Zips Win MAC East Regular Season Crown, Head Into MAC Tournament with Big-Time Momentum-----Wow. Just wow. If you didn’t find a way over to Can't State tonight for what turned out to be the game of the year in the Mid American Conference, you certainly missed out. Two top teams giving everything they had in front of a sell-out crowd…drama..suspense…a game winning shot from Jeremiah Wood…wow, just wow. Let’s review the game…----------The Good--------- * MAC East regular Season Champions - sure, what really matters it who holds the trophy on Saturday night. But it still feels damn good to see the Zips win the regular season crown. * Jeremiah Wood - 17 points, 15 rebounds, and the game-clinching bucket to top it all off. Oh, and did I mention he was 5 of 6 from the line? * Nick Dials - 14 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and the two biggest free throws of this season to-date. * Cedrick Middleton - 17 points tonight to go with great defense and intensity. He provides the Zips with an amazing spark when he’s on the floor. * Nate Linhart - Gutsy, gutsy, GUTSY ballgame from Linhart. Playing through his injury, he didn’t look to shoot much at all but provided defense, rebounding, and great hustle. Glad to see he isn’t lost for the year, and that he can still produce. * Romeo Travis - While he struggled shooting, he did put out another double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. He has been much more aggressive inside lately, something I’ve felt he’s lacked in the past. * Zips Fans Coming in Numbers - The entire section was loud for most of the game and really had an effect on the outcome in my mind. Let’s hope an even stronger following shows up come Thursday. Also kudos to Chad for setting up the ticket purchases and organizing everyone in one section. It made a big difference tonight.---------The Bad------------ * Zero bench points from Zips players not named Cedrick Middleton. We need more production in the Tournament. * Missed free throws - they made up for it in overtime, but the Zips could’ve sealed this one up much earlier had they hit some clutch shots from the charity stripe. * The Can't State Police Officer who asked to see Lebron James’ ticket before allowing him to sit down. I mean…seriously?---------The Ugly----------- * The phantom traveling call at the end of the game. It honestly shouldn’t have even gone into overtime…just an amazingly bad call. * Can't State students (or at least the majority). Middle fingers flying everywhere, grabbing crotches, constant swearing…not to mention the “F&%k the Roo” and “F&%k the Zips” chants. Every year I’m amazed at how classless many of them act, and even worse - that the leadership of Can't State hasn’t stepped up to do anything about it. * A few AK-Rowdies doing a very distasteful chant I heard towards the end of regulation - “Where’s Your Sisters?” - referring to one of the Can't State players’ family members having criminal histories. Now, I’m not one to play P.C. Police, but what did this chant have to do with the player himself, who had done nothing? Guys, please…let’s not turn into the type of fans I discussed in my last paragraph at that “other” school…we’re better than that. You don’t bring a person’s family into it. Luckily the chant didn’t catch on thanks to the majority of Rowdies who knew much better than to resort to that.Overall, it was a great night. But let’s not get too excited just yet…there’s still a lot of work to do for Akron. Here’s a look at how the MAC Tourney shakes out:MID-AMERICAN CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTFIRST ROUND - Wednesday, March 7Game 1: No. 8 Eastern Michigan vs. No. 9 Ball State (1 p.m.)Game 2: No. 5 Ohio vs. No. 12 Bowling Green (3 p.m.)Game 3: No. 7 Central Michigan vs. No. 10 Buffalo (5 p.m.)Game 4: No. 6 Western Michigan vs. No. 11 Northern Illinois (7 p.m.)QUARTERFINALS - Thursday, March 8Game 5: No. 1 Toledo vs. No. 8/No. 9 (Noon)Game 6: No. 4 Miami vs. No. 5/No. 12 (2 p.m.)Game 7: No. 2 Akron vs. No. 7/No. 10 (7 p.m.)Game 8: No. 3 Can't State vs. No. 6/No. 11 (9 p.m.)SEMIFINALS - Friday, March 9Game 9: Game 5 winner vs. Game 6 winner (TBA)Game 10: Game 7 winner vs. Game 8 winner (TBA)CHAMPIONSHIP - Saturday, March 10Game 11: Game 9 winner vs. Game 10 winner (ESPN2, 7 p.m.)A few quick random thoughts on the pairings: * I like getting Buffalo or Central Michigan in Round Two. I think both are great match-ups for Akron and shouldn’t be a problem assuming the Zips play their game. * At this point, would anyone be shocked if Ohio got upset by Bowling Green? * Watch Can't State’s Second Round match-up closely. Should Western Michigan defeat Northern Illinois in Round One, the Broncos would get another shot at defeating the Golden flushes. You might remember Western drubbing Can't 79-57 just weeks ago. * And of course if both Can't and Akron win in the second round, they’ll meet for a third time this season in the Semi-Finals on Friday night, this time with even more on the line. I’m not sure my heart can handle doing all of that again.

timmy..I will add that as a side note also...No contribution from Conyers....or McKnight....or Rybak. And very little from Quade. We got this done with 6 guys, and a few of them were in foul trouble. Ok...we won three straight road games, which I didn't think they could do. But, did we develop some "helpers" during our time without Nate Linhart? I really don't think so.

I am not surprised with the level of class the flushes have (or shall i say don't have)...It exceeded all my expectaions though... F u Akron is now a chant ? and by college students? and a sign that reads K.S.U.CKS should be confiscated... right? And did you see the empty bottles thrown our way after the end of the game? and the guys touching themselves and grabbing their grudges make you wonder if we attended the game at a college campus or a strip club. No need to mention the middle fingers thrown to us and towards Lebron James all the game long. But you gotta love the girl in the video warning every one that obscenity and unsportsmen like behavior will not be tolerated at the MAC center... i am wondering if all what they did was not considered unsportsman like behavior than what is? oh wait... holding a sign that says K.S.U.CKS ... that is what is unacceptable. And let's go back to the refs... this is getting old and disgusting. 2/5 fouls on Dru are immaginary, Nick getting beat up with no calls and a traveling on Linhart in the last minute of the game... those refs make me :puke:

Can't State and their fans are a joke. They do not deserve all the success they have enjoyed for so long. I'd rather be a zip any day. :screwks::screwks::screwks::screwks::screwks::screwks::screwks::screwks:

"F u Akron is now a chant ?" At least they're referring to us as U Akron opposed to Akron U. Glass half full! lol, they are just that pathetic.I was so happy to see Lebron there jumping up and down. He was so proud, he was beaming. Michael Reghi did a great job, with whoever that other guy is, who was just kind of annoying. Reghi could have done it solo. Linhart- he's a scrapper. I love it. I just hope the kid remembers that he might need that thumb later in life.Dials- FOUGHT LIKE THERE WAS NO TOMORROW!J. Wood- the man is a beast, there is no other way to say it.

I hate to stir the pot a little here. And let me preface these comments by saying that I have all the respect in the world for Dru and Romeo. I truly believe that without those two Akron basketball would still be stuck in a .500 at best funk. I'm one who believes that their overall impact on the program deserves them a spot in the rafters of the JAR, but........Does anyone else find it just a little ironic that the biggest play of the biggest game of their senior year is a layin by Wood off a feed from Dials?

Watched the entire game at home last night. What a game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The officiating was worse than lousy, especially the phantom traveling call on Linhart. That was a joke of a call.My hats off to the Zips. Fantastic ob. Keep it going. As a side note, I ran into Gerry Faust this morning. He told me that last nites game was the best college game he has seen this year. Coming from a former fb coach, not too bad.GO ZIPS

There's no better feeling than beating K.e.n.t…and no worse feeling than losing to them. Thank God the refs couldn't steal this one from us. Wood was an absolute beast. His play in the paint was outstanding all evening. Any rebound he got his hands on, he pulled in. 17 of them? Some nice outlet passes too. I love how he's always looking to push the ball. Middleton's energy carried us in crunch time. Yeah he took some ill-advised shots, but he wasn't alone in that department. His late game breakaway lay-ups were desperately needed. I would bet the kid is dead-tired today…hell of an effort. The small forward position was enigmatic last night. Conyers got quite a few first half minutes, but really didn't distinguish himself. You'd hope that logging the PT he did in such a hostile environment will help at "The Q." You'd hope…. Linhart played tough, but the fact that he's NO offensive threat whatsoever with the bad thumb hurt us a bit. Playing 4 on 5 on the offensive end can only work for a limited time. Milum never found a rhythm. Since he's such an athlete and a leaper, you'd think he'd be pretty effective against K.e.n.t, who has a lot of similar players (K.e.n.t isn't a "bruiser" team like OU by any stretch). Dials was as frustrating as Chinese algebra. Great plays…crazy forced plays…but when it came down to crunch time, his last second drive that drew two defenders gave him just enough space to thread the needle to Wood and win us a MAC East championship. Gritty game by Nick.Dru had a relatively bad game. As usual, a pesky, quick opposing guard gave him trouble. To his defense, the piece-of-crap referees seemed obsessed with fouling him out of the game. K.e.n.t's #11 is the worst "flopper" I've seen in some time. If Dru sneezed, the kid flew into the stands like he was hit by a cannon. And the refs typically took the bait.Speaking of refs, the traveling call on Linhart needs to be reviewed by the league office. For that referee to make such a blatant false-call in such a critical situation of a championship game should bar him from participating in any Zips games in Cleveland this week. He should also not be allowed to ref the championship game regardless of the teams participating. If he wasn't cheating on that call, he "choked" in making it. If he's choking in a 6,500 person crowd, I can't imagine what he'd whistle in a 14,000 person championship game. The other horrific call that almost cost us the game was the late-game shove on Wood that put him at the line. Wood is ridden out of bounds…no whistle…he saves it to Travis…no whistle…Travis goes up to dunk, gets his tomahawk to about the 12 o-clock position…and the whistle blows…on the foul that happened 4 seconds earlier. Nice job by the ref to take away 2 points and put our worst FT shooter on the line. Great focus by Wood to step up and drain those FT's. You can tell he's worked on that part of his game very hard.I don't understand why, when we're up by 8 points, we started playing like we were losing by eight. Some really terrible shot decisions almost cost us the game and much as the referees. If we work the shot clock down and feed the ball inside, instead of hoisting quick 3's, the game's not even close. Kudos to K.e.n.t for taking advantage of the mistakes we made at critical times. And taking advantage of the refs. They hit some clutch shots when the chips were down.'Rome and Dru got their place in Zips immortality secured last night. If there's any sanity in the Athletic Department, the K.e.n.t basketball game at the JAR next year will be featuring the raising of the MAC East championship banner to the rafters. It'll be good to see 'Rome and Dru again. On a related note: How stupid is the K.e.n.t marketing and promotions clowns to get Z-E-R-O mileage out of their football victory over the Zips this past fall? Two absolutely beautiful monitors at the corners of the arena, and no videos of the Wagon Wheel to pump any of their fans up? No "Just Like Foot-Ball" chants from the student section after K.e.n.t took the lead? Nice job.Anyone else notice the Can't State dance team uniforms used the Zips Blue and Gold (not yellow) colors? Thanks to the team for a great win. Beating K.e.n.t, at K.e.n.t, on their senior night to win a MAC East title is about as good as it gets. I hope we can parlay the experience gained into a strong MAC tourney showing. Wood stated in the post-game interview that "This team doesn't care about what's happened to Zips teams of the past. This is a new team and a new attitude." We'll see on Friday night, because that's when we'll meet K.e.n.t again. BTW - I verified Jose' Davis has no more eligibility remaining, so I expect to win.See everyone at the games Thursday, and at the Winking Lizard in-between!:champs:

This was the oddest call of the night. I can see calling a FOUL on a guy if you "suspect" there was contact (maybe your line of sight was blocked). But to call a travel when the video replay clearly shows no inkling of a travel and the ref had an unobstructed view of Linharts feet. I would like to know what this guy saw? Probably the worst call I have seen in a while. This guy needs to not ref another MAC game this year. The other issue I have with MAC officiating in general is how these nickel and dime calls really kill the flow of the game. Every time a good stretch of back and forth basketball starts.... we get a holding foul on a guard or an away from the ball foul. They're just not needed. It also puts the best players in foul trouble and in the case of Dru, puts a premier player out of the game in crunch time. Is this what the MAC wants.....its best players on the bench in an overtime game with two heated rivals for the MAC east championship? Does everyone remember the imfamous Chris Webber "timeout" call in 1993? When he got the ball, he clearly walked.....ref didn't call it. As it turns out Michigan was out of timeouts but the point of the matter is that the ref ignored the travel.....he was going to let the players decide the outcome of the game....not the guys in black and white. It's frustrating to watch. I would rather see a no-call than a bad call. I can say the calls were bad on both ends of the floor last night and it frustrated the hell out of me. The game is not about the guys in black and white....its about the players.....let em play.

Good thoughts .. only a few to add:- Regarding SF, I thought last night was a good night for Conyers. He played most of the first half and by my count only gave up 1 bucket on defense. Singletary was not a factor against him & Jimmy provided good help D on several occasions. I thought it was a good sign that he could contribute on that end of the floor in that environtment with that much on the line.- Also with regard to Jimmy .. I think he must have played for Norman Dale in HS. There were 2 occasions where he put the ball on the floor beat his guy to the rack and then passed off to someone else, rather than taking the open, OPEN look at the basket. Both times he was told by KD as he came out later to "Shoot the Ball!" .. perhaps a confidence issue. Regardless, I thought he contributed solidly to the first half defensive effort.- Would sure like to see a little more McKnight early in games to keep Rome & Jeremiah fresh .. but I can't argue with the results.- Not sure how I feel about taking the risk in having Nate out there. He really pounded that hand on the end line play in the second half. Not sure the risk / reward was right .. but he came back out.- Good to see the Juniors sack up and get it done for the Zips last night. Makes me feel pretty good about next year already. Wood is our best player IMHO, hands down & he gets better each game.- You know that LBJ is rooting for the Zips .. anyone get a good look at him last night? Was the first guy out of his seat on the big plays by the Zips ... by all of the Zips, not just his boys. There's a lot of moaning about too many references, but I say BS to that. It's clear the guy is an Akron guy and and Akron fan .. and we should be damn glad he is .. cause our guys are playing with him in the summers & it will continue to benefit the program long after DJ & RT are graduated.- Great atmosphere & great win. To be the top dog in the conference, you have to go and beat the top dog .. championships aren't given to you .. you have to go out there and TAKE them. This win is another small step towards that goal. Nice effort & finish by the club. What a great way to start this week, the best week of the year, out on the right foot. Nice job KD & the boys .. now get some rest & be ready for some wars.Go Zips.Soon to be :champs:

I agree totally. I watched Conyers close last night when he was in. VERY good defense. Hopefully his offensive game will follow suit next year. Can some marketing person PLEASE figure out how to get a Zips lid on LBJ!?! What a wasted opportunity.Which official was it that blew the Nate traveling call: Glenn Mayborg, Terry Wymer, or Lamont Simpson?

Are you serious.... he had the ball stolen from him, threw his arms in the air and didnt even attempt to get back an try to make a defensive play. Conyers showed em last night why he gets very little minutes! Oh not to mention the few times i seen him running into his own men while trying to roll off a pick.

Absolutely serious .. been watching Jimmy VERY closely. He rebounds well from the SF / SG position & he NEVER gets beat one on one. Not against Kemp from Nevada .. and not last night. Early in the year I think he struggled keeping up on the rotations & switches, but he's been in tune with the D for the past several games.Jimmy's not the guy who's rolling off picks in this offense on this team. He's the guy SETTING picks to get the bigs or Dials free. I can say I've not noticed him tripping on a guy through a screen .. He's the guy setting the down screens in the rotations.Jimmy will be key & will be clutch for us the next 3 seasons (he'll get one back if Scott Taylor does his job). I think him vs. Singletary for Can't State will be interesting to watch.
