adzip Posted March 19 Report Posted March 19 Know all the attention today, and appropriately so, is on our incredible men's basketball team and the opportunity they have on Friday, but today was another great day to be a Zip. Our 2025 Mac champion women's lacrosse team moved to a 2026 season record of 7-2 by taking down PCCC 10-6 at their field! Another Wagon Wheel point and a dominant performance by the Zips! Cant Read, Cant Write, Cant State couldn't hang with our Zips who literally played on another level. Look forward to the same on Friday. Go Zips! 7 Quote
Zips1991 Posted March 19 Report Posted March 19 Amazing progress for the program in such a short time! 1 Quote
adzip Posted March 19 Author Report Posted March 19 (edited) Yes- we fielded a team for the first time as an underfunded D1 program in 2020- so this is our sixth year. Three years ago there were 127 D1 teams and we were ranked at the very bottom. Last year, we had jumped to an 82 final season ranking! That's an increase of almost 50 spots. As of today, we are in the 80s again with 133 D1 teams (sport is having solid growth). Now- lets be realistic. We can not compete with teams at the very top- schools like North Carolina, OSU, Clemson with their full ride scholarships and lacrosse-only stadiums! But, if your hoping to play D1 womens lacrosse and get an offer from Akron- that's a positive- not only for the athlete but also for their club team. Like many sports, the club season is more important for recruiting than the high school season. And- given the lacrosse landscape- this success is giving our program and our school some much deserved national exposure! Edited March 19 by adzip typo 1 Quote

That's our only conference loss. Lacrosse is obviously much more popular in that area of the country. Edited 48 minutes ago by Zips1991 Quote
