exit322 Posted April 3 Report Posted April 3 Apparently Terry got bored. This summer he'll be coaching Monroe (LA) in The Arena League, a 7-on-7 indoor football league. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/18ovTiBYFU/ 3 Quote

It's not a huge time commitment as coaching goes, and frankly he probably can get a few guys who stayed around ULM after he coached there (in addition to whatever else they conjure up). As the season goes from May 30 - July 25 (with two weeks for playoffs IIRC), it wouldn't interfere with whatever HS stuff Terry's doing. I believe it's an 18-man roster with 7v7 and no kicking. As coaching jobs go, it's probably not going to be real stressful for him. Quote

Some teams better than others, but good attendance for what is a reasonably low-budget operation (even by indoor football standards). Given a name like Terry Bowden (even if he doesn't take it seriously), I'd expect Monroe to be in that "better than others" category. Quote

Zipsoustider would go on to become the de facto Warhawksinsider and will go to his grave lamenting Bowden getting fired by both schools. It was so bad some thought it was his brother Jeff running the account. By some, I mean me. 1 Quote
exit322 Posted Wednesday at 08:57 PM Author Report Posted Wednesday at 08:57 PM (edited) Bowden's Greenheads kick off on Saturday in Iowa. In their first two TAL seasons, the Iowa Woo (yes, Woo) have gone 2-8 and 4-5 (including playoffs), so probably an average opponent to see what's what for the expansion team. Almost assuredly, I'll be the only one here taking a peek haha (but that's more because I've followed indoor football for 26 years now). They've done a...reasonably poor job...of getting roster information out, but Monroe's defensive coordinator is a guy (James Shiver) who's been involved in indoor football coaching on and off since 2001. So, Bowden will at least have coaches that have worked with the walls before. Though Shiver was always an offensive coach indoors, but whatever. With the caveat that Iowa hasn't always produced stellar broadcasts, the game can be seen on YouTube on the TAL channel. Blue & Gold Posted Wednesday at 10:14 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 10:14 PM Props to him not just sipping martinis from the balcony of his beachfront condo like I probably would. 1 Quote
exit322 Posted 5 hours ago Author Report Posted 5 hours ago (edited) Delay early in the second because Bowden got clobbered on a deep ball interception (one coach is on the field for both teams in the indoor game) Bowden getting stretchered, though he isn't happy about it. Probably testing for a concussion. Also he's 70 and was the only one in the play that didn't have pads and such. So...that went well In a little better news for his team, the Greenheads seem to have a pretty good downfield passing game in the early going. 24-20 Monroe with about 1:45 left in the first half. exit322 Posted 4 hours ago Author Report Posted 4 hours ago 24-20 at half Monroe 0/4 on two point tries so far or it could have been a bigger lead 1 Quote
exit322 Posted 3 hours ago Author Report Posted 3 hours ago Bowden did return for the second half, but he's staying on the sideline Quote
exit322 Posted 3 hours ago Author Report Posted 3 hours ago You can watch the halftime on that link above, somehow the Iowa Woo got Red Panda for halftime. Greenheads up 38-34 early fourth (1/6 on two point PATs now) Quote
exit322 Posted 3 hours ago Author Report Posted 3 hours ago Bowden - who let the assistants coach on the field in the second half - starts 1-0 with a 44-34 win in Iowa. With everyone on their first game of the year, hard to tell who's any good or not, but better to start with a win than a loss. Offense was good downfield, but anything short or running was a little iffy. Pretty good defense, 3 or 4 interceptions. Stats a little lacking, hopefully the league at least gets them out there. 1 Quote
