Z.I.P.
I hate to throw a damper on the miracle celebration folks, but I won't be the only one asking this question: Who should be our QB next week? Temple coming off a win. We need to score a lot of points for at least psychological reasons. I feel, as I wrote on the game thread, that Jacquemain lost the game with his inabillity to score/create the game-tying TD.If I were coach, I would do the unthinkable, and start Jackson.Go ahead and hit me with your best Z.I.P. RACER
zip i totally agree.cj11 turned the ball over way to many times.i honestly dont think the game with wmu is that close if jd start cj7.western scored alott of there points off akron tunrnovers from cj11. UADavid
As you will find out tomorrow, Akron won the game. There is no way Jaq doesn't start the game next week. While he had hiccups, he threw for 380+ yards and four td's. You should have heard the end of the game. It sure was an exciting endng. skip-zip
Jacquemain will start next week. He threw for 380 yards and 4 touchdowns. I'm certain JD will let him work through some of the mistakes he made today, but he certainly earned his stripes with that performance. Captain Kangaroo
CJ11 starts. CJ7 should start looking at Jabari's success and start thinking about a career at WR before he starts falling too far behind Al Owen.Someone took the shackles off CJ11. Thank God. He looked like the guy I saw in summer camp. If the staff has confidence in CJ11, I do too. Why? My job doesn't depend on his success. Their's does. The Zips have losses to Indiana, Ohio State and UConn. They've beaten Army, K.e.n.t and Western Michigan. To be 3-3 with that shedule is pretty respectable. Yeah, tonight was a miracle, but good teams make miracles happen. Teams rarely stay the same during a given season...they either improve, or regress. The Zips are improving. Unfortunately, so is Miami. And...Buffalo??!
RACER
i still think cj7 is the better qb.im am not against cj11 .it's just he makes to many mistakes.there is no excuse for fumbled snaps.the one positive is i realy feel we have two decent qb's and can win with both of these guys.i just hope jackson stays with the team next year.i have seen through injuries where you can go from #3 on the depth chat to #1 in one game.i still think cj7 has alott of talent and the zips need to find a place for him. Let'sGoZips94
I say you start CJ7, ware the defense down with options, then when Temple's defense is exhausted, put cj11 in.
RACER
i think the schedule is finally going to go out way now.if we can beat temple next week we have a bye week before going to buffalo. Can't and ou are pretty much done with two losses.that leaves akron,bg,miami and buffalo? in the hunt.from the way the mac is going this year a 4-2 record may win the division.if akron can take care of buffalo, and temple we should be in good shape for bg ,and miami. Quickzips
CJ11 threw for 380 yards and 4 TD's last night. Good for him. He also single handedly turned the ball over 3 times and just about did it a 4th and 5th time. Until he learns to limit those kinds of mistakes I'm not going to be completely comfortable with him. I've heard a few times how CJ7's big problem on the field is turning the ball over. If thats the case I really don't see what the difference is b/w him and CJ11. I can't figure out why we've so quickly forgotten CJ7's game against Can't where he was one of the insturmental guys at making that win happen. IMO that win wasn't any less impressive than the one last night. I'm still a guy who prefers what CJ7 can do behind center. That said. At this point, I'd just be happy to finally stop the QB shuffle. Pick one guy and stick with him. If that guy happens to be CJ11, so be it.
Zipsrifle
CJ11 will start next week, no doubt. I was at Waldo Stadium last night and I agree with CK, that was a different CJ11 than in the past. With that said, I think there are some big advantages that CJ7 can bring to the field and I wish we would leverage this more!!!The bad:Turnovers. IMO, CJ11 isn't the safer QB when it comes to turnovers. I saw him put the ball on the turf 3 times last night....losing two. One was on a snap....took his eyes off the ball...it happens. The other two are because he doesn't protect the ball when he's scrambling. He hangs it out there when he's scrambling, need to work on this bigtime. As for the INT, he was looking directly at the receiver as soon as he got the snap so I wasn't too suprised. The other critiques I have are that CJ11 made quite a few risky passes last night and we got lucky on a few. On one of those 4 passes into the End Zone in the 4th, he just tossed one up under pressure and we were lucky it didn't get intercepted. His passing is inconsistent....at times he shows a great touch (Jabari's "No-Touchdown" in the 4th.....it was a TD folks, we got screwed!) and other times he just flat out misses high (which is OK since we never throw down the field....it just goes out of bounds). Finally, he has GOT to keep an eye on the down clock......no excuse! I think this is at LEAST the 2nd time this year in a critical situation he has screwed us with a delay of game. The good:I always like to end on a +ve note, and like CK said, this was a different CJ11 than in the past. IMO, he had a MUCH better feel of the pocket collapsing around him last night. There were several times he hung in there till the last minute, a-la Charlie Frye, and then tucked and ran. In MAC play, he is a fast QB and made several good gains and even had a few good moves. He wasn't afraid to take a hit either (just cover up the ball when you do)! As I said, he can have a great touch and can throw a bullet. Outside of his Delay of Game, I was very impressed with his composure and how he ran the offense, he was in charge out there. He also wasn't afraid to get out there and block when he handed it off (Though his blocking technique needs some work) . Finally, he is getting VERY good at consealing the handoff. I don't know how many times I wasn't following the ball carrier after the handoff. I didn't see the UCONN game, but he is MUCH better than the last time I saw him play. ZippyRulz
CJ7 has put himself in the doghouse, plain and simple. Sad to say but he may not have the maturity to play for the Zips. His parents should be reading him the riot act. If he doesn't shape up he may not be around much longer, let alone get back on the field. ZippyAlum
I agree. It's not the coaches fault that CJ7 is not playing. It's his. He's got to take care of business. He had the starting spot and gave it up because he didn't want to get out of bed in the morning. These coaches have said from day one that they would take no excuses this year for undisciplined behavior. I'm just surprised that so many of the ZN fans are willing to. Lee Adams
 i'm more concerned right now that the ZIPS had to scramble to score 39 points to win...the Defense was supposed to hold the fort and is still giving up acres of yards...when you put up 24 pts in the 1st half...the D should be giving you a comfy lead...CJ 11 and the coaches and the O are being forced to put up points on every possession...CJ 11 will start because they won...he still makes too many mistakes...unless the D steps up the ZIPS are going to get blindsided by a Buffalo or Temple...hold on! RACER
i still have not heard the story behind why he was benched.if all the kid did wrong was be late for one meeting then that is ridiculous to lose you starting spot.i guarantee not one person on this board has not been late for work at least once.you lead by your play on the feild.if it's all about team morale why not just put one of the male cheerleaders as qb. zipboy
At this point, CJ11 gets the start. I was a bigger fan of CJ7 in preseason. He played a great 3 quarters against Indiana and had a dud game vs Can't. At this point, both guys are close. CJ11 got the opportunity and has gotten better each week. I don't see the staff as punishing CJ7 for missing a meeting. I see CJ11 taking advantage of an opportunity he got because CJ7 gave him the chance. If CJ11 had played a bad 1st quarter, I think CJ7 would have gotten in and maybe not relinquished the job. At this point, I am still not sold on either one, but there is improvement. If CJ11 starts out hot against Temple, he should play the whole game again.
lovezips
dumb...D.U.M.B.....dumb........ There is no question who our starting QB should be. It should be Jacqueim He threw for almost 400 yards and a couple of touchdowns. He played great. He put up over 30 points on the board. skip-zip
Please, lets not all turn our Cleveland Browns Fan mentality on the Zips. If we do, we'll continually think that the guy on the bench is better.I would be totally shocked if CJ11 has not officially won the QB race after that performance. Didn't he even complete his first 10 or so passes in a row? I understand the point that we may have forgotten that CJ7 won the Can't game. But, his performance in the Can't game was not very good. I think he was something like 8 for 22 passing.CJ11 has now shown that he can be productive. That's the first time this year that we saw a solid QB performance. It is about responsibility and I applaud JD for laying down the law. Many on this board ripped him for a lack of discipline last year and I believe he is making the right moves and sending the right messages.
