Buckzip Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 Rivals Bio -- 2-StarsScout Bio -- 3 StarsLooks good. Makes you wonder why the hometown UConn didn't offer him though. Quote
akronad Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 So, without subscribing to either of the previously posted sites, what does this say? From what I am reading, Akron does not even fit into this kids plans, Not even in the top 6! So, if all of a sudden he chooses Akron, WHY??? Let's look beyond his stats on the field, we have got to be missing something!! Do we really need another project player? I am just as disaillusioned by all of the JUCO's we are allegedly recruiting. JUCO's at our level are nothing more than band-aids, stop gaps! If we cannot recruit incoming freshmen to accomodate our needs, then the system must be broken. If the system is broken, do we dare look any further than the coaching staff? Do we dare look beyond the coaching stafff and look at the administration of the athletic department? Quote
Zips fan Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 This kid is coming from high school not a junior college. His is also a top 100 receiver. This is a great pick up! Let wait and see how the recruiting ends up before we declare it broken. Quote

Perhaps he has grade issues. Even the big time schools recruit some JC players. They do it when they are young at certain positions and need some experience immediately.I would agree with you if we had numerous JC players, but there are only a few. GoZips Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 PTI of this love fest. I have a question. Where is the proof of information that this kid reneged on his verbal and has now verbaled to the Zips? Quote

Where is the proof of information that this kid reneged on his verbal and has now verbaled to the Zips?Because I wrote it.If you elect to believe Scout or Rivals info on UA over mine, that's your call. Or maybe you question it because it isn't in the Beacon? Either way, it's up to you where you choose to obtain your Zips recruiting info. Quote

Once I discovered ZipsNation it only took one recruiting season for me to cancel my subscription to Rivals. The information on here is almost always months ahead of either Rivals or Scout. Perusing through Scout & Rivals is still a lot of fun, but as far as accurate, up to date information goes, this is the place, and generally, CK is the man! Quote
Blue & Gold Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 BTW, I also love the recruiting work Rasor does w/ his blog. Top shelf quality! Quote
GoZips Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 Actually, I asked because I do not trust Scout or Rivals. No offense to you CAP'N. I was just seeking written proof from a source other than those two notoriouslyinaccurate sources. I was not trying to step on your toes. The kid reads as if he has some talent. Could we recruit some FB coaches with talent? Quote
Zips fan Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 Could we recruit some FB coaches with talent? We definitely can, but if they show promise then we can't afford them. We have had some very good assistant coaches come and go through our program. It is tough for Akron to retain quality coaches with the salaries we pay compared to the BCS. Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted January 26, 2008 Author Report Posted January 26, 2008 I'll add one more thing --Back...oh...12-or-so years ago, the Beacon did a nice job covering the Zips. Even when the team was bad, the coverage was fair. Both recruiting, and on game days. Then, they made the decision to cut WAY back. I went through the proper channels and wrote the editor. They basically told me "F U, OSU sells papers and that's who we're covering."I figured it wasn't so difficult to contact people at UA and get the stories myself. The lack of discussion regarding Zips athletics (ie. on the radio), lack of print coverage, and the dearth of recruiting information were the main reasons why some of us hackers got together and formed this site. Sitting around bitching about it wasn't getting anything done. The people within the University have been VERY accomodating in providing information. Because of UA's market situation, they value the exposure our blog gives their respective programs. And they like forums that generate fan interest and excitement. The people that run this site are all married, employed and most have kids. This site is a hobby, but one we all take pretty seriously. If I post something on a recruit, you can be assured it was well-researched. I typically never post a source within UA because I don't want to be responsible for screwing up someone's career with a mistake. I'm an engineer, not a journalist. Most of the inside-scoop stuff I write is in the "Word on the street is..." venacular. That has proven to be the best way to handle things in the "blog" format.I'm glad a lot of you enjoy the site and enjoy the information. Like any hobby, it only costs money...but we do it because it is fun & it supports UA. Quote

Lee Adams Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 some of you guys are so smart...really...whats the Zips record going to be this year?....lets not take ourselves too seriously here...especially after the last 2 years...oh ya...will the new stadium get built in time?...how about a pool...we can all throw in 10 bucks, pick an actual completion date..the closest w/o going over wins the pot..kinda like the Price Is Right!...ya i know some of you may not like this 'thread' being thrown in here...but we are ALL dedicated fans...RIGHT... RowdyZip Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 Back to the topic at hand...is this a guy we'll actually see on the field? 900 SAT and 2.35 GPA seems kind of borderline... Quote
Quickzips Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 Just another in a long line of borderline qualifiers that JD keeps taking a chance on that we will never see in a Zips uniform. If he makes it to the practice field at all I'll be thoroughly shocked. If he plays more than 1 year here someone may need to call the paramedics for me. Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted January 27, 2008 Author Report Posted January 27, 2008 He's a 6' 3", 185lb WR that caught 62 passes for 1100 yards and 18 touchdowns...in a single season. He currently holds the Connecticut state record for most consecutive games played with a receiving touchdown at 13. He runs a 4.45 forty. I'm pretty excited that a kid like that is coming to UA.I'm not privy to any of his academic information, other that the single sentence written on the recruiting site, so I'll defer to JD's knowledge of the situation and assume the kid has a good chance of being successful with his classwork. JD knows he can't have another 2006 class again. And, the 2007 Zips class was excellent.BTW -- If there were a 6' 3", 185lb kid that ran a 4.45 forty, and had a 3.35 GPA and who wanted to come to UA I'm sure JD would have offered him. Quote

Being a 'mid-major', how I cringe at that term, we have to take chances, just as long as we don't take too many chances that we hurt ourselves. Quote

What was that all about?Poor Lee.. someone has ate way to many lemons and became bitter. Maybe you can go over to the Ashland board, they just broke out some new plans for a new stadium complex. That way you could double down and complain about 2 complexes being built. Quote
