Zeke Marshall Verbal commitment!

Recommended Posts

Zeke is the recipient of the Zips' lone scholarship for 2009. This will be Nate Linehart's spot.KD has 2 to give for 2010-11. The seniors in 09-10 will be Conyers & C. McKnight. It's expected that Jimmy will regain his 4th year of eligibility due to his academic progress. So they can start looking at HS sophomores this summer. They're way ahead in the recruiting game .. while most of the conference spent this April filling their 08-09 rosters with unsigned guys .. the Zips have secured a verbal from a top 100 player, 4 star guy .. and the #11 center. Huge recruiting spring. It has to help them move forward and upwards.

Well, it looks like I miscounted. Zeke is the lone recruit of the 2009 recruiting season.According to KD there is just one scholarship available for 2010.Perhaps Jimmy got his fourth year which would be great news. Or, it is possible the scholly is going to Rydell Brooks. Again, a worthy recipient. What position need will be addressed. I contend that they will be looking for a tall, small forward.

Hadn't yet heard that about 2010 .. I have to believe that Roberts will find his way to scholi sooner or later. He's a big time player in the making as he showed at FSU .. so it's hard to imagine he wouldn't get help at some point. 3 more years of him provided he stays on top of the books.

Man, sounds like we are going to have a MONSTER team in a few years! I didn't know we were going to be this stacked. Imagine it.....The BB team makes a run deep into the NCAA tourney, and the Soccer and Rifle teams both win National Championships! ;)
Forget soccer and bball, lets get that rifle dynasty started.

Here's another article about Zeke from hoopwise.com:Akron Gets Verbal From 7′0 Big MarshallZeke Marshall is already to be a defensive presence in the paint — the McKeesport HS center (09 class) is the best shot-blocker in his class. His offense is coming around slowly but surely. He’s a project worth gambling on to schools like Pitt, Virginia, Maryland and the like because of his athleticism, and then there’s the whole 7-foot-thing. But Marshall, according to an ACC assistant that scooped me about him last week, is a different cat. How different is now evident after the highly-sought big verbally committed to Akron in the last week. Marshall has to add some weight (he’s currently carries 205 lbs on his 7-4 wingspan) but he’ll be a dominating defensive presence in the MAC right away. Marshall can’t sign with the Zips until November and that will cause some sleepless nights for the Akron staff, but the kid sounds real committed. Props to Keith Dambrot and assistant Jeff Boals for working hard over the past year or two in establishing a relationship with the young man. Marshall, when Akron receives his LOI in November, will be the highest rated recruit the MAC has seen in many years.

This is great news, Zeke and his family sound like quality people, they will fit right in with the families and student athletes that are currently on the team. I met many of them at the MAC Tourney this past season all are very nice. Good Luck to Zeke in your upcoming high school year and we are waiting patiently to see you on campus!

Well I have to admit the only reason I attend the rifle matches is to watch the cheerleaders and dance squad, but when an occasional stray shot catches a spectator that's entertaining as well. ;)

A try to get back on the topic. Here is an article by Jeff Goodman of FOX Sports.http://community.foxsports.com/blogs/goodm...T_ZIPPING_ALONG
Nice find! Maybe it's happened already and I haven't seen it, but I have to believe that at some point a few schools are going to be whining about how the LeBron factor is an unfair recruiting advantage for the Zips. Especially since KD is not shy at all about discussing it. I hate to say it, but maybe the BCS schools that lost out on Zeke will get the ball rolling?

All the big schools use NBA players to help in recruiting. Michael Jordan has his summer camps at Chapel Hill. John Stockton does a TON of PR for Gonzaga. LeBron supporting the Zips is no different. No, he didn't attend UA. But that's irrelevant. He's an NBA guy helping his former coach. Something to consider -- Greg Oden passed 5 more credit hours at Ohio State than LeBron has passed at UA. How would it be any different if Oden lent a hand to Thad Matta?

The LeBron angle has already come up some over at the Can't boards, although not as drastically as one might expect.http://www.ncaabbs.com/showthread.php?tid=298080Ohh and I love the one genius who says, "#11 center is nothing to brag about. I wouldn't be too concerned."Let me translate that, "Holy shit, #11 center in the class of '09, man I wish we had him. If we had him all Can't fans everywhere would be proclaiming ourselves ready for a final 4 run. I'm shitting all over myself because Akron landed this guy."

I have to admit that the thiings people are saying are very interesting. I just read through the blogs about Zeke and Akron and I have to agree with you QuickZips...as much as they "want" to talk like they really dont' care or that Zeke is probably not that good..the majority of the comments seem to be around the idea that Can't State missed out on a highly ranked recruit..and they realize that it is going to COST THEM in the long run. I wouldn't want to admit how screwed up my program was either. Even they admit that the "merry go round" concerning their coaches looks really, really bad...but I wonder how they would feel if they knew that Can't never showed any interest in Zeke in the first place. Boy..talk about that green monster coming out...JEALOUSY..is soooo ugly!!!!!!!!!!!

So are most of the centers who have played at Can't in recent years! Can't wait to watch Zeke changing shots or just plain swatting them away between 2009-2012, ESPECIALLY here, there or anywhere against Can't (and Pitt if we get the chance to knock them around a bit).

What were his rankings before this update? Don't tell me they actually went UP after verballing to a MAC school. I was under the assumption that going to a MAC school automatically reduced your ranking simply by virtue of going to a MAC school.

he was #61 overall and #11 at his position via scout.com I believe.
You are correct. There are 2 top ranked scouting services: Scout.com has Zeke @ #61 (#11 overall Center 2009) -- remember, that was BEFORE the AAU Pitt Jamfest and King Jamees AAU tournament. Rivals.com just updated their rankings today based on his AAU play. They have him ranked as #37 (#8 overall Center 2009).

Rankings are based on the recruits High School, Camp, and AAU level play. College choices are not factored into the rankings.
