Nice start. Let's keep the pedal down. These announcers clearly are not at the venue and have limited knowledge of the teams. -
One small thing that jumped out at me recently occurred at the Tip-off reception. Each year, the men's and women's team each have a player take the stage with their coaches for a Q and A. The men's players have been veteran team leader guys like Nate, Enrique and Tavari. Regan Bass was Enrique's counterpart. I don't remember last year's women's participant. This year it was an exceptional engineering student but she was new to the team. It made me wonder about the continuity and stability of the roster.

Coit was nothing special at Kansas. As I recall, he was a 15 minute/5 or 6 point a night guy. He's not capable of 40 points at that level and attitude-wise was not a fit for the Zips. His chirping at Groce to come get him while on the floor for another team was proof of that. -

Duquesne plays its annual game at SVSM this Saturday at 4:00 against Northeastern. I've been to 2 or 3 of these now and its interesting to watch a D1 basketball game in that intimate of a setting. I wasn't a fan at the start of these as I was afraid it was in part a recruiting ploy but I haven't seen that happening. It's free D1 basketball in our own backyard., -

I really think they have a chance at success in this tournament. The field is decent but not overly strong. Charleston is 2-2 with with wins over South Carolina State and Tusculum (one for Captain's list!) and losses to Liberty and Florida Atlantic. Evansville is 2-2 with wins over Henderson State and Oakland City and losses to Purdue (by 31) and Middle Tennessee. Green Bay is 1-4 with a win over Ripon (another one for Captain's list and losses to Kansas, Buffalo, St. Thomas and Minnesota. Iona is 3-0 with wins over Hofstra, Kansas City and Fordham. Oregon State is 3-0 with wins over N. D. State, UIC and North Texas. UMASS is 3-1 with wins over Brown, Rhode Island College and Albany and a loss to Marshall. Yale is 3-0 with wins over Navy, Quinnipiac and Stony Brook. -
The Zips head off to St. Thomas, Virgin Islands next weekend for the Paradise Jam. The Jam includes, Iona, Oregon State, Evansville, Charleston, UMASS, Yale and Green Bay. The Zips open up Friday against Iona. The Gaels are currently 3-0 and play Princeton Tuesday. If the Zips beat Iona, they will play the winner of Evansville/Oregon State on Sunday. Lose and they play the loser on Saturday. The tournament ends Monday. It would be sweet to make it through the bracket and take revenge on Yale for the title.
