His record was 4.3478% merit! He should have used that lawyer in his Portage County credit card case. He should go quietly into the night, say it just didn't work out and use his connections and pre-PCCC reputation to get an assistant job someplace. Instead, he'll draw attention by raising a stink and cost himself jobs. Schools and ADs pay attention to this type of stuff.

Good thing they didn't fool around and did this quickly! April is prime time for something like this. LOL.

Agreed. Too many schools seem to think they have to offer all things to all people and then Title IX adds to the number of sports that must be supported. I'm more of a fan, especially in today's climate, of focusing on the programs in which you're successful rather than throwing good money after bad. I realize that may make it more difficult for your struggling programs to improve but I'd rather be competitive in a few sports than mediocre in a bunch.

MAC All-Freshman team in 22-23. Versatile 6'4" guard. Hurt early in his sophomore year and missed most of the season. Returned this year and averaged 13 ppg.

I've often thought with the changes in recent years to college athletics that focusing on a sport might be the best way to go. Gonzaga, Butler, Xavier, Georgetown...and the like. Unfortunately, it keeps you out of many conferences like the MAC.

I think people may be placing a little too much emphasis on the revenue sharing money. If every team in the conference gets the same amount in revenue sharing, the teams that were already ahead in revenue sharing without the revenue sharing will maintain that same advantage if the outside donations remained the same. Example- School A had $1M in NIL money and the conference kicks in another $1M. School B had $500K in NIL money and the conference kicks in $1M. School A maintains a $500K advantage. Also, the extra money in the pot across the board results in inflation in the player prices. The real advantage comes in generous outside donors and a school's commitment to a program.

I was at the top until the last minute of the championship game. I now know what it feels like to be Miami. -

Given the lack of other bigs, neither developing a consistent outside shot and their trouble in guarding on the perimeter, I don't see them playing Okonkwo and Lyles together much, if any. Lyles can hit an occasional open three but he's not a floor stretcher. -

Agreed. I was just pointing it out as some believed he would be more of a "big" than a perimeter guy. I think he ends up being the guy on the other team's second big when needed, just like Gray. I'll sure miss Gray. That kid was gritty. -

In the Instagram release on Evan Mahaffey Groce's quote states "...we felt we needed to add some size, versatility and skill to our perimeter. With Evan, we feel we accomplished that goal..." That's a pretty strong indication they don't view him as a big but more a wing defender on the league's bigger wings (like Lewis was at Toledo/Craft was at Miami...). -
With Boals influence, maybe Simmons can step into the shoes of Clayton and go from pre-season All-MAC to All-MAC third team.
-
Talented kid. One of the top whiners in the MAC.
-
Indeed you can. It involves sitting in the PCCC section at an Akron/PCCC game.
-
"Wherever you're going you can get there, from the University of Akron." You old timers recall that commercial jingle?
-
Shucks. It came through on my phone through my Google news feed. Summary: The article quoted KD quite a bit. He talks about how he didn't get to know Senderoff well until after he left PCCC and he speaks highly of him in the article. He also spoke of the advantages Akron has in NIL and how the athletic department, including Guthrie, has made a commitment to the program. He acted as a go between between Guthrie and Senderoff in getting them together. The article compared KD leaving Akron to go to Duquesne, a program with which he had a connection, and Senderoff having a connection to Fordham. It spoke of how PCCC, its AD and administration stepped up and supported him to keep him there (though not matching Fordham's $1M offer).

Interesting read here on Senderoff staying at Kent and Dambrot's involvement. https://www.cleveland.com/sports/columns/2025/04/why-kent-states-rob-senderoffs-turned-down-a-1-million-a-year-offer-terry-pluto.html

I used to work around the yard in a Bowden Football camp t-shirt I got in one of those grab bags. It was not a good advertisement for Bowden's camps!
-
Agreed. He had that season then everybody pretty much bailed other than Pritchard.
-
Wow, in 2023-24 he was 18-14, finished fourth in the MAC and was named the MAC coach of the year.

I hadn't been that excited since we were joining the ACC.

They can have it. It worked out well for OU this year!
