  1. Nice little story in Zips Line today. Read the La A QUICK STORY I WANTED TO SHARE Our 13th-ranked Rifle team competed Saturday at the University of Mississippi, earning a hard-fought and -shot 4.601-4,591 victory over the No. 17 Rebels. That’s a great win for our program, but what made this trip particularly memorable was a man in the crowd wearing a Zips shirt. Although there are Zips fans all over the world, Oxford, Miss., is not exactly a hot-spot for UA alumni, so it was a pleasant surprise to see someone there wearing our gear. After 36 years as our Head Coach (following his time as a UA Rifle team member), Newt Engle knows everyone associated with our program. Since this gentleman wasn’t related to one of our current student-athletes or a former Rifle letterwinner, Newt walked over to introduce himself to a smiling stranger who was waving and cheering for our team. His name is Perry Arrington, and he’s the brother of our late Football Assistant Head Coach, Alan “Tank” Arrington. An Ole Miss grad, Perry is from Mississippi and lives there today. He told Newt that it was the first time he ever attended an Ole Miss event wearing the colors of another school, but he wanted to cheer for the Zips because of how much our school and athletics department meant to his brother and family. We all miss Tank every day, and we think often about Perry, Tank’s wife Gail, Tank’s mother Gale, and their entire family … it means a lot to us that we still have a Zips fan in Mississippi, especially because all of us here in Akron who had the honor to know Tank always will be lifelong Arrington fans.

  2. For the unaware, there is a hyperlink attached to the word, "Tinder" in the original post. If one would click on it, it would take them to the wiki page with a full explanation. It doesn't get easier, until the enhancements in telepathic communication are advanced.

  3. I figured to start this up. Should be intriguing to see what Coach Herlihy does in her first season at the helm for the Lady Zips. My friend posted this in the Other Sports forum. In my opinion, she's the marquee recruit in this class. I see her being very similar to Kelly DeNiro, but a more consistent scoring threat. http://zipsnation.org/forums/topic/32750-national-signing-day-2015/

  5. So IMG happened to quit making an effort the same time Brad left. Strange

  6. Hey guys, his name is Eric Stoller and his office phone number is 330-972-8459. I'm sure if you give him a call he'll be happy to explain what his vision is and what he has done since taking the helm. I don't think it is fair to just assume he is doing nothing. I remember the season Swanson hit his stride. The Zips won 19 straight, which I got to believe was a major reason for his success. Not taking anything away from Swanson, I still have all the stuff from that season lol.

  7. So Brad Swanson, a "young guy" had the leeway and money to come up with social media night, bobblehead giveaways, replica championship rings, etc, but we just lock the new guy in an office with nothing but a pen and a pad of paper huh? BS. The marketing department at UA needs to be innovative and creative just like those for minor league teams. Unfortunately, that's what MAC teams are. Pick a current event. Do something goofy with it. The Rubber Ducks made NATIONAL news for the Brian Williams thing. How much did it cost? A news release, some social media posts, a pair of pants, and a little $$ to pay a guy by the same name to read stories. This is not difficult. Apologies for changing the direction of the thread, but this is (or should be) a very important focus of athletics and falls directly under the scope of our AD. Use social media, be witty and creative. How much money did social media night cost? Team jerseys, and some banners. And they ended up making a bunch on selling replicas.

  8. i really don't have an opinion on TW one way or the other. I would say the Ianello hire is a fire-able offense itself, but its hilarious how he gets all the blame for that and no credit for anything else.

  9. I agree with you here. Two years ago during the streak we had good energy in the crowd. I remember a home game against Buffalo where we were down 16 early in the first half, yet the crowd got into it and cheered the team on. The same people are at the games as they were two years ago. The team needs more support from everyone, not just the students.

  10. I agree. I thought it'd be nice to go ahead and get a general idea before I invest the time looking into it. There's a lot of potential, and if ZNO members are afraid of losing anonymity...we don't have to lose our anonymity as members just show up and enjoy the company of other Zips fans. If there's enough interest I'm going to see what I can do to contact student groups on campus. The answer is always no unless you ask, and I'm tired of sitting back wishing things could be better with fan interest/being in the community.

  11. 100% not true. The guys in charge years ago are not in charge now. Some, do, however show up. At least to the bigger games. We all wish more students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community would show up. For some reason, there is and probably always will be an excuse why folks do not...

  12. Thanks, THZ. I've been meaning to tell you how much I appreciate your more active participation on the forum this season as you bring a wealth of knowledge about college basketball. Since you don't participate as much in the football discussions, I assume you're like me in terms of being more interested in basketball than football. The priority on ZN.o has always been biased in favor of football, so I guess that puts folks like us in the minority. But I'm really impressed with the rising level of interest in the basketball forum. We have a lot of new posters here bringing different viewpoints, and I think that's really healthy for the overall conversation compared with the past when the same forum members were presenting the same repetitious viewpoints. We Zips basketball fans are really fortunate to have a program that's been in the mix for the MAC championship every season for the past decade. We're also fortunate to have a great place like ZN.o to carry on our discussions. Life is good.
