  1. I thought members might like to discuss throughout the next couple of weeks. All games here. UAB gets first upset of the tournament. A 14 knocks off a 3 seed. No excuses needed. If this game is an indication of how this tourney is going to go, it should be a good one.

  2. Just wanted to say THANK YOU for all the support you gave to the team and the coaches!!! I wish I was able to attend the game but that week we were finalizing the move back in our home (we had a house fire back in Oct 2014) But we watch all the games and I follow all the Blogs and news that was out there regarding the Men's Zips Basketball. As a parent and fan I was so PROUD what this team was able to accomplish through all the adversity they went through. After the game I told Kwan hold your head high because you were able to prove to yourself and everyone out there you guys could do it. No one ever thought you guys would even get this far alone getting to win 21. I just let him know that what you went through this year will prepare for next season. I'm looking forward to the next season because this team will go further than you could ever could dream of. This team actually has a brotherhood that you don't see too often in a basketball organization. I love it and I'm a PROUD mom and fan - Thanks again to all the fans I met over this season we look forward to meeting more of you guys in the next two years. See you next season - GO ZIPS #2 ZIPSMOM

  3. I think unless it's just truly offensive and way out of line everyone should be allowed to say just exactly what they want to say on this forum. (Of course, it's not my say.) I think CK & Dr. Z do a great job with letting us all be ourselves on here. Some boards have prissy squarebritches as moderators censoring every heartfelt opinion that might ruffle some feathers. Just my 2 cents.

  4. I think its hard to measure a class when they get here, easier to do when a class leaves. Is this a sign of "progress" in the progum? "I come in here my freshman year and I saw one scout, to see eleven or more today is like god blessing us" Jawon Chisholm I think it's important for a talented recruit to see that he has a chance to reach the next level here at Akron. This is one way. Start at the three minute mark.

  5. 1.) No one downplays Lolla's success. But in baseball, he would be a AAAA player...too good for AAA, and not good enough to be a major-leaguer. And note - UA soccer was a force long before Lolla. It isn't like he built anything from the ground up. 2.) Identifying a great young coach, and signing him, is not a fluke. Great AD's make great hires. No one goes 100%, but the great ones always seem to pluck great talent. The bad AD's don't have an eye for talent. They make crippling decisions based upon flawed logic. The great AD's move on to bigger positions, bigger programs. Bobinski, Rhodes, Thomas. To a lesser extent - Waddell, and Yurachek. Where's Dennis Helsel? Middle school principal somewhere? Some people are happy with a guy who "manages the game." I get it. It's a safe way to keep pace with Bowling Green, YSU and CSU.

  6. Keith Dambrot was on Joe Dunn's radio program sometime last year and was asked about other programs in the MAC. He said that the schools that invest most heavily and effectively in basketball are Ohio, Toledo and Akron. He then said something far more interesting: Ohio's Jim Schaus is "by far the best AD in the league." That certainly seemed to be a shot at TW, but my guess is it's based on a few things he's seen: Ohio has a very effective marketing program and strong attendance; Schaus can raise money like crazy (nearly $3 million in new seats for Convo, new b-ball locker room and lounge, practice court facility in blueprint stage, center-hung video boards on order, new academic building exclusively for athletes, and more). Jury is still out on his current b-ball coach but he inherited huge holes due to coaching turnover. So I'm guessing that if KD were asked, he'd prefer to have someone else in the big chair.

  7. My point was that we thought it couldn't be better than Ken Lolla. He left; we lamented it. Caleb Porter was available and was hired. We got a National Championship, a 2nd runner up, multiple Zips on pro soccer teams, an Akron Head Coach chiding "Zips fans" for wearing blOSU gear, etc.. We were lucky (Mega, if you want) that the timing of Lolla's departure allowed for Caleb's hiring. Lolla said it couldn't be done at Akron...perhaps that was added incentive for Caleb, although I doubt he needed it. So ironic that our National Championship came in a game vs Ken Lolla's Louisville team. Still hasn't been done in 9 years at Louisville after 13 (?) at Akron.

  8. No knowledgeable Zips fan thought that VCU was a nice draw in the NCAA tournament. Facing VCU's havoc defense with the Zips star point guard (Alex Abreu) lost to the team was a nightmare draw. And then it got worse. Starting shooting guard Brian Walsh was so sick with the flu that he could barely move on the court for 9 scoreless and ineffective minutes. Backup center Pat Forsythe was so sick with the flu that he only lasted 3 scoreless and ineffective minutes. Backup shooting guard Deji Ibitayo had back spasms so bad he missed the game completely.

  9. You're reaching. This is common and is most likely happening at every single D1 university. We have had pretty damn good coaching retention if you ask me. As for a-zip, sack up dude. Nothing wrong with people disagreeing with you.
