Can't state still sucks major down here in Texas at 8:13 on a Wednesday night4 points

The ABJ should be writing articles like that Tallahassee paper's. They don't even have a reason to write about Akron, and their article paints the program and accomplishment exponentially more positive than the ABJ. I can't stand it.3 points

A.J. Milwee named to AFCA 30 Under 30 Institute Akron's Seminole Coaching Connection Congrats to Coach Bowden on his engagement! It's been a good year for the coach. This article further convinces me that the current coaching staff is not planning on going anywhere.2 points

Henry Grantland Rice was an early 20th-century American sportswriter known for his elegant prose. Craig Webb likes tweeting about roller coasters. I don't like reading negativity about the accomplishment the Zips made this year. As depressing as our D-1A history has been, this bowl game is a cause for rejoicing no matter the circumstances. I don't know Mr. Webb, but I doubt if he knows the heartache that long time fans of this program have endured. Ya know what? That might be a story that could be written for the Beacon. . . interview some long suffering fans of the program and get their take on bowl eligibility. Here's an idea! Contact some of the players and coaches that are just a few city blocks away for some interviews. A newspaper in freaking Idaho can get that done, but not the BJ. Naw, let's regurgitate some nonsense from some internet blowbags that actually feel the need to rank the watchability of the goddamn bowl games. Now, there have been a lot of opinions floated on this very forum that have been critical of the Zips, even critical of the University itself, but those viewpoints come from the sometimes hurting hearts that want the best for our beloved institution. I believe Charlie Daniels said it best:1 point

It's now winter break. What students? I wish they held some back for distribution to fans possessing a receipt from a team sponsor...since I will be frequenting The Score until about 6:45 pm.1 point

It is a game between the 71st and 99th ranked teams in the country.... It is what it is.1 point

Amen. That is a story that even a non-fan could enjoy. The latest p.o.s. Zips article that the ABJ published couldn't be an enjoyable reading experience for anyone with an IQ over 15 or a Can't grad. The Beacon should be ashamed of the piss poor publishing they have purveyed pertaining to UA.1 point

Just think of how many donations they might receive if the uniforms said "Akron".... donating to this is a good cause-- they show up and play hard every game1 point

The outrage flying prices coupled with the distance (if it was in Florida, I'd drive it airline prices were outrageous> Boise is 2200 miles from Cleveland, no way I could make it back before Christmas Eve), and not to mention with it being so close to Christmas is making it look like I'm not going to be able to go. I'll be donating to the band because I know they will be cheering on the team loud and proud. I really like what the (new?) director is doing with them. What is the t-shirt you are speaking of?1 point

I received the following email: Join the Zips’ championship effort and help defray the cost of sending Ohio’s Pride to the game to support the fans and players. Your gift will help showcase the marching band’s talent to the rest of the country. Click here. Enter the amount of your gift, then enter "Band to the Bowl" in the “Please designate my gift to” box. This will ensure your gift is directed to the Marching Band. Complete the remainder of the form and click “Add to Basket.” You will be prompted for your credit card information. Help to ensure members have an opportunity to do what they do best – build school spirit and serve as outstanding ambassadors for The University! Thank you for supporting Ohio’s Pride. The band plays before this years Wagon Wheel game. —©Photo by Dr Z Edit: Here is an alternative if the above link doesn't work for you. Go here: https://www.uakron.edu/giving/ and click on the green box "give now"If that doesn't work just google "give to university of akron" it should be the first link.1 point

No, but it continues to be a HUGE issue that they can't admit to what they actually were doing. How many other half truths or less are ongoing. I understand that I may not agree with what Scarborough and company want to do, but at least I would respect them if they were forthright about it.1 point

First: Education (as in the act of learning, and teaching) isn't a business. Though it does have something in common with business: it's a system, with many complex interactions between many variables. Second: Groupthink is universally bad, which is really what ZeeTeeZip and the editorial article is referring too. Groupthink is a psychologial phenomena that happens in groups, which often yields irrational, poorly planned and executed, decisions. There are many case studies to show how bad group think is, including some from the business world: The Bay of Pigs Invastion, The lack of Precaution at Pearl Harbor are a couple examples I remember reading about in psychology that I took at UA. Group think can be avoided by maintaining a diverse group of decision makers, where power is not isolated in one particular place, and all invested parties have a voice at the table. This allows for conversation, and give members the opportunity to consider things they may never had considered before. To arrive at the best fact driven decisions, participants need to leave politics, bias, beliefs, opinions, feelings etc...at the door. This is difficult for people to do, which is why you must rely on a diverse group of people to help arrive at the best solution. Science itself is a model for how to eliminate those things: where there is diverse thought and diverse disagreement; those with the best arguements that are supported by the best evidence win out after convincing others withing the group. A group of yes men, or a group of the "Good Ol' Boys" is not a prudent way of making decisions.1 point

Just caught this, 3 coaches, by the way...Caleb Porter, of course, and assistants Cameron Knowles and Pablo Moreira played for the Zips. It is a GREAT time, as you said, to be a Zips fan and a University of Akron alumnus. I would love to be at the Bowl game, but I already have pre-paid plans to be with Zips Mens Basketball in Las Vegas. I looked at flights from Vegas to Boise, but it takes too much time and defeats the purpose of going to Vegas. I hope others make it to Boise. First bowl appearance in 10 years, and only the 2nd of the D-1A era, is something to be part of if possible. Happy for Terry, his staff, and all of our players. GO ZIPS!1 point

Deji was really good his senior year. I don't remember anyone on this board saying very good shooter his frosh and soph. year. Ivy is just beginning. However, this team really needs an athletic kid to attack the hoop and he seems to be the best candidate. Hopefully, he will lay off the 3 ball. We already have too many guys shooting the 3 ball.1 point
