  1. Talk about thinking outside the box! An Akron tuition drawing at Dix Stadium! Brilliant!

  2. Why do you perform better research for a message board post than an ABJ writer does for a feature column?

  3. Assuming that's sarcasm - here's the attendance down the stretch in 2013 when we were in that scenario. 5,403 vs UB 5,770 vs OU 3,385 vs CMU 5,247 vs BG 4,447 vs NDSU 5,189 vs. Miami ??? vs Kent (ESPN doesn't list the attendance but safe to assume sellout or near sellout) Besides a Tuesday night vs CMU, attendance was great.

  4. Just read an article today that Perry is very much interested in going to Europe. Not so driven by MLS money. I can't post now from my phone but will try to post later. Edit:. http://wapo.st/1OrFPQU?tid=ss_tw article is titled about obafemi martins but scroll down and there is info about Perry.

  5. If the basketball team went on a football-like losing streak, winning say 6 or 7 games a year and getting throttled by MAC teams, how many people do you think would be paying to come sit on our wooden bleachers? 200?

  6. I don't know if he's 1st, 2nd, 3rd...... For a while now, I've been looking for site where I can aggregate data across multiple MLS seasons. I've yet to find one.

  7. It will be interesting to see who is First team All-MAC. You could make a case for Johnson, Campbell, Boothe, Hall and Thompson just at the forward spots. I'd imagine 4 (or 3 if they go with a traditional 3F/2G lineup) of them make first team with the last spot (or 2) going to Wilder, Fowler or Simmons.

  9. I'll comment on a few things here... 1) Yes, I think the University DID feel that a New Stadium would be a solution to some of the attendance problem. Why? Because they listened to the people's excuses. All of the people who complained about the concessions, the bathrooms, the seats, the drive to the Rubber Bowl, etc. These things might have been problems that they cited, but it obviously was far from the REAL reasons why people historically don't support this program. I'll continue to say that if people cared what was going on, and Akron was accomplishing something significant enough for them to care, they'd pack a dungeon with crappy bathrooms and crappy seating. 2) I understand the idea of catering to Students, to an extent. They can create atmosphere. That's what can make it fun again. But if you are in Akron's situation, the much larger benefit is going to come from people who can buy more tickets and donate more money. 3) As always, the significance of wins is going to mean far more than "just winning". Look no further than our perennially successful basketball program, where we are still a long, long way away from packing an arena that only has 5,500 seats.

  10. I like having the K.e.n.t game moved up to take advantage of the increased likelihood for good weather. I also like having the OU game as the last game of the season - Rivalry Week. I think I dislike OU more than I dislike K.e.n.t and I think OU fans dislike us more than they dislike MU. We should ditto this scheduling with both K.e.n.t and OU every year. (With the exception of playing OU on a Tuesday. Lame.)

  11. I was thinking about this exposure comment. Since I can only watch most games streaming on the computer (live in VA) it's a thrill to actually watch one on TV. What I have noticed is that if I can watch them on TV they are most likely going to lose. If I just counted right, since 2012/13, the Zips are 11-14 on national TV (ESPN, espn2, espnU, FS1' CBSS, broadcast). Probably not the best exposure for the Zips. Maybe this is why I always laugh a little at the making a run, changing to a better conference, afraid to play us comments on here.

  12. What would everybody's ideal Saturday kickoff time be? Personally I like the late afternoon and early evening games but I have to drive at least two hours each way to get there.
