  1. Joe Dunn pointed out the major change in attitude that the Zips and their fans are disappointed to lose and not just happy to keep it within 7. Great offensive effort. Great team battle. The defense has a long way to go.

  2. Don't know why I am even wasting time addressing anything related to the attendance discussion, but I would bet actual attendance will equal the announced attendance all season, as it clearly was for the VMI game. Last year was the inflated season to help meet attendance requirements for the rolling 2 year period. If you recall, the 2014 season was the year in which we had the worst attendance in the NCAA, where I am assuming actual attendance figures were used. The University gave (bought) all recent alumni season tickets last season, thus able to use the "paid" attendance number. I haven't heard of anything like that this season.

  3. The Zips strength is their passing game. They will probably come out throwing. If I were App, I would defend the pass well, and make the Zips run.

  4. The defense is definitely a work in progress. Overall I was happy with the effort.

  5. No excuses because the Defense cannot stop anyone. The Offence, when it gets going, is Oregon/Baylor-level Dangerous..

  6. Our D isn't where anyone wants it to be, but hat's off to the mental toughness that has worked the Zips back into this game. 1-2 years ago, we were done once we were down.

  7. What's concerning is the Zips D has only allowed 1 scoreless App State drive and that was because of a botched handoff.

  8. I totally agree... a consistent winner in the MAC only gets the program to minimum attendance requirements I think (an average of 15K per home game). I don't think it goes much beyond that with any consistency while still in the MAC. Interesting to look back at the last 20 years of Zips schedules-- we were playing, and beating, Cincy with regularity. Wish we could be in a league with Cincy, Pitt, Syracuse, Louisville, Memphis (and maybe Toledo). Universities within driving distance in mid-size media markets.

  9. Can we change the thread title? I feel like any visitors will think all of us are delusional if this thing keeps getting bumped

  10. Exactly, but outside of Wichita State, if they were to add football and had a strong desire to compete at FBS level, I can't think of any realistic candidates that would raise MAC basketball to being a bonafide 2 bid conference.

  11. I enjoyed this write-up on their Board. Put some effort into their research and had some humor.

  12. Waiting for the next post...."I'm concerned coach Bowden is promoting the program too much and not focusing on the team" Back to what's important, the game. Small Hustlebelt preview...Akron Ready to Turn Some Heads. The Akron Zips host the Appalachian State Mountaineers at InfoCision Stadium in Akron on Saturday at 3:30 with a chance to turn some heads around the country. All that stands in their way is an App State squad who manages to make national headlines seemingly every year. This figures to be a fun game. The Mountaineers started their season with a nail-biting loss at (alleged) powerhouse Tennessee and followed it up with a smacking of Old Dominion. Last week the perennial Cinderellas hosted the Miami Hurricanes in what was by far the biggest game in the history of their campus. It was supposed to be close. It was not close. --By Kevin Nye Perfect Tailgating Weather!
