  1. Joe Akron. He doesn't care. He's drinking a Busch Light and watching the Buckeyes.

  2. If you noticed, the writer said it was a small gripe. I would, however, prefer that it counted up. Soccer play by play is always in terms of what minute (total game) in which something happened. It's been done occasionally. They still stopped the clock at certain times per college rules. The sub rule is the biggest problem with developing players for the next level. College players who are not 90+ minutes fit can easily get overly inflated stats. I would continue to allow more subs in college than pros, but once a player is subbed out, they should not be allowed to re-enter. With the "bloated rosters", there are plenty of players available who could actually get more playing time.

  4. My apologies, missed your last post about the Ohio State game. However, after reading it I disagree that we should not schedule good teams. Playing good teams gives you a chance for an upset, gives KD an idea about the teams weaknesses, and prepares them for better competition which they will face if they get back into the tournament.

  6. Hasn't Akron beaten P5 schools five years in a row? What has that done for the perception of the program? What does beating projected last place Georgia Tech do for Ohio that beating Mississippi State, Oregon State, and South Carolina didn't do for the Zips? I guess I don't understand this thread. OU just did what we have done every year for the past half decade and people are acting like we need to be more like OU.

  8. I wouldn't really call Georgia Tech prominent. They've made a grand total of 1 Sweet 16 this century and haven't made the tourney since 2010. To Joe Akron they are no different than Arkansas, USC, or Penn State, all teams Akron has beaten in the recent past. Gonzaga is actually a school Joe Akron knows for being good. I'd rather have them on my schedule than Georgia Tech.

  9. Skip don't get what you're getting at here, I think most people complain about a low profile home schedule not who we play away from home. At away/neutral sites since 2008 we've played at Pitt, NC State, Texas A&M, Minnesota, Miami (twice), Mississippi St (won and that was a top 25 team), West Virginia, Oklahoma St, Penn St (twice won once), Oregon State (won), South Carolina (three times won once), USC (won), Arkansas (won) and National Champion Villanova. I think you can complain about some things about our schedule but I don't think that's one of them. We've played and won against high profile teams. The Ohio GT win will be quickly forgotten. You'd have to win consistently against that type of competition (including the NCAA tournament) to get your average fan to take notice. I have no issues with Akron's away/neutral scheduling and that's not even counting solid mid majors like Dayton and Middle Tennessee.

  10. It doesn't matter what OU's schedule looks like, or where Georgia Tech is "projected" to finish. The only thing that matters to me is that they scheduled a very prominent school, from the biggest b-ball conference in the country, on the road, in OOC play, and WON. Why? Because if this was our win, it would catch Joe Akron's attention more than all of the wins against Coppin State, North Carolina A&T, and Arkansas Pine Bluff over the last 10 years.....combined!! Joe Akron couldn't care less what OU or Akron's OOC schedule looks like. Nor does he know anything about what you, or the prognosticators have said about Georgia Tech. The only thing that matters to him is that Akron knocked off a big basketball program.

  11. Isn't this such common sense it should go without saying? What is the NCAA's thinking?

  14. I said earlier that I would probably camp out for a week on our campus to get a front row seat to be a part of something like that happening on Akron's campus. That would almost be the pinnacle for me, with everything I've invested in being a supporter and fan of the Zips for several decades. And I probably wouldn't have slept at all last night. I'd be too excited, knowing that the entire country was going to see us. It's definitely a day of jealousy for me too.

  15. That's exactly what I was thinking too K92-- I used to hope for a Keith Jackson called Akron game, then UA hosting College Game Day... wonder what that'd be like? Still waiting and hoping for breakout season from an Akron team. What PJ Fleck has done is beyond amazing... I'd like to think that there could be a convo w Terry that puts as an objective for him to identify a PJ Fleck-like talent that he can get on the staff and groom to take over for him in a few seasons.

  17. http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer-articles/mens-ncaa-tournament:-second-round-preview_aid41028 I think that top drawer soccer writer J.R. Esklison predicted a 2-0 win for the zips in the first round. In the link above, the same writer makes his choices for the 16 games on Sunday.
