  1. If Akron was ever ranked #8 in the country you'd all see the same thing here. #85 (TeamRankings.com) in the country?... Not so much.

  2. Laziness has nothing to do with it. Apathy is the problem. In their minds there are countless better ways of spending their time over watching some basketball team that isn't good enough to get its highlights shown on Sportscenter.

  3. By the way GT, the Zips beat USC and Oregon State. You listed them, so you should know the Zips beat them.

  4. Meh...we have the same thing at Akron. Ok, instead of tents it's cardboard boxes...and instead of students it's the homeless...but other than that, we got it. I like the Zags Marketing angle of placing a couple cute girls in tents to draw male students to the games. I bet that would work in Akron too.

  5. Cue the "Gonzaga doesn't have a D1 football albatross tied around its neck" arguments.

  6. I'm not sure why and I am definitely not an expert but it seems like the MLS fans don't care enough about college soccer. The MLS superdraft and how it is handled is somewhat of a joke to me. In this country college soccer just isn't that big and it is looked down upon. Also it is too expensive and time consuming to have a large fan base travel that far. These need to be at college stadiums. This is an embarrassment.

  7. http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/preview?gameId=400915774 Really good game preview by ESPN. Mentions the Zips strengths, injury concerns, and even has a quote from coach. You can tell that the author put in the work for this article. We should play top 10 teams more often, this is the best coverage the Zips have received from anyone yet this year.

  8. I was looking at the Gonzaga game notes posted for the game and it gives a link for the video stream of TheW.tv which "is the home for West Coast Conference action on both linear television and in the digital space." You can also reach it from the West Coast Conference website wccsports.com. I called the conference office and the woman I spoke with said we should be able to watch the game for free on that site. As of the moment I am writing this, you can click on "Scores and Schedules" along the top of the page, find our game on the list and click on it. I does bring up the game screen, but no video yet since the game has not started. It also appears it will be on Livestream which I can cast through my Google Chrome. I hope I have not been misinformed, but it certainly is worth a try come game time.

  9. Good one. Should have seen the cute girls giving out the order of tent numbers. A couple of the GU freshmen were having lunch across the street when the tweet went out announcing the "secret" location.

  10. Disappointed that John Nelson is going to UNC and not Akron.

  12. This got me thinking Akron hasn't made something like 16 straight tournaments, hasn't made an Elite 8, and has never had a top 10 rating. Quit trying to compare apples to oranges. If you want what Gonzaga has, we need to become nationally relevant. At said point not only will students make it more of a priority to show up, but so will Joe Akron.

  13. Building Block? This is the kind of Win that could make the difference between IN or OUT. Or, if we're already in, it's the kind of win that could make a difference of a couple of spots in seeding. I like how the article points out that scheduling these games are "a necessity to build a program that has respect nationwide". That's right on the money. That should always be our ultimate goal.

  14. You mean it's better coverage than the Akron Beacon Journal's "Staff Reporter"?
