  1. Perfect opportunity for Akron to get this kid and some free publicity.

  2. Since the year 2000, the MAC has been a one bid league. The sixteen year average seed for that one bid is 12.4. Without looking at RPI, CBS, SOS, pom-pom, or any other spreadsheet, I'll guess it's the same this year within one either way.

  3. If you really think about it, there are far more pressing things to be done in Akron than a new downtown stadium. The logic here has mainly been "if you build it, the other improvements will come" I'd argue, and also the city probably will argue, that a stadium will never be successful unless the downtown is revitalized first. The revitalization of downtown Akron should not be contingent on whether or not a basketball arena is there for an average attendance of 3,500 people.

  4. Was it last year or the year before that there were folks on ZNO blasting the RPI rankings and saying how big of a joke the RPI is and to follow the Kenpom because it is a better formula and makes so much more sense? To me they all suck - Kenpom, RPI & Bracketology. The so called experts have no clue. They aren't watching these teams. My formula is simple..... Play a tougher OCC & win some games, win the MAC tournament, win a couple of games in the NCAA tourney and earn your own respect. Quit relying on some stupid spreadsheet!

  5. I hope on this Valentine's Day that Ken Pom has some luck with Barbie Pom. Maybe it would help to take her to Don's Pomeroy House? A little Absolute + POM will get the party started. And remember - You make your own LUCK, Ken.

  6. Besides a win, there are certain things I would like to see tonight from the Zips. I would like to see Utomi have another double figure game. Give him some extended playing time and see what he does with it. Would like him to score from the inside. Defense- KD indicates that this team is going to play better defense. Maybe this will be the game our guards will stop the dribble drive penetration off the high screens. Kwan- I think Kwan has gotten away from his inside game. Would like to see Kwan penetrate and dish or score around the basket. Do not rely only on the 3 ball. Poke and the bench. KD want to play the bench more but indicates we give up offense. Dunn Martin can penetrate and feed the Poke. Love watching the dunks! Need to get solid play from the bench so the starters do not go 30 plus minutes. Big Dogs buzzer beater on the big screen with Titanic Music And yes, a double digit win! Go Zips!

  7. Other, similarly rough journeys:

  8. Agreed. Akron should have been able to pull in someone better than both Scarborough AND Tressel.

  10. Well, I'll be darned. One of the play-in games that year was indeed a 12/12 game. Alright. Time for me to take a break from this tournament maze. My head is spinning

  11. 2014 had 2 12 seeds play in Dayton. More times than not the play-in games are 11 vs. 11 because there are so few 1 bid conferences that have teams that get seeded above at-large teams. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_NCAA_Division_I_Men's_Basketball_Tournament

  12. It probably won't be until after some of those landscape for learning initiatives (student center, rec center, football stadium, field house, etc.) are paid off before we get a new arena. At said point I feel it will be a joint venture between the city or county (perhaps both) and the University.

  13. Well for starters they're taking out a large swath of route 59, I believe that's also part of the new housing and revitalization initiative. My normal path home is closed because they're currently ripping up a bridge. There are also plans to renovate and restore a lot of the buildings on Main Street that have that need to be done now, or the buildings are at risk of irreversible structural damage. There was an article on that a couple of months ago, I can't seem to find it right now, but I believe that was a very expensive proposal that is likely part of this initiative. Edit:  Found the article from the ABJ.  No Values are given for the projects, other than a $5-million grant.  But I'd imagine a lot of the money of capital investment is coming from these related projects.

  14. I think we need to shoot for the MTSU, Illinois State's of the world. Teams that are in the same boat as us

  15. We scheduled 2 impossible games and a bunch of cupcakes. Need more in that 30-60 range for some realistic, decent wins. Until then we're in this same crappy spot. Pretty much have to run the table until the MACC get an at large.

  16. Former Zip running back Hakeem Lawrence ran a blazing 6.72 in the 60 meter dash at SPIRE in the NCAA DI Invitational, the third fastest time in that event in Zips history. And WR Kwadarius Smith looked pretty damn fast in the same event, finishing 4th at 6.83 seconds. Boy is Hakeem a specimen upper body-wise. Dan Ludwig continues to shine in mens PV and Becky Szabo surprised by winning the women's PV there as well. MAC Championship 2 weeks away....should be a good one, although I'm going to SPIRE again to watch the Big 10 Indoor Championships...closer to home.

  17. Kwan was one of the last to get going in the game. 5 other players hit a three before he did (even he really heated up after that). Maybe the rest of the team gave him his confidence back?
