  1. You're right, if people want to go, they will. And that will happen no matter what day the game is. The fair weather casual Zips football fan (me) would go (and have gone) if it's a nice day on a Saturday. The chances of me going to a Tuesday night MAC football game is about zero.

  2. My philosophy is that the stadium is already built and the money is already spent. Regardless of how you feel about the stadium, the people who made the decision are no longer here and bulldozing it or cutting the program won't make that annual ~$4.4M cost go away.

  3. Not to mention people like to conveniently forget it would have cost more to renovate the Rubber Bowl. A stadium was needed, get over it.

  4. Why do I have this bad feeling that he will hit a game winner like this against the Zips at some point over the next few years??? I hope I'm wrong.

  5. Length of the season matters because people understand there has to be a Tuesday game played in basketball. There is no other way of squeezing 32 games into a season. People do complain when Saturday games get moved to Friday. There are plenty of no shows for Tuesday basketball games. A typical Tuesday basketball game might have 2,500 butts in the seats so its not like those are pulling huge crowds. In fact, I'd say many of the people that attend Tuesday basketball games are the same people who attend Tuesday football games.

  6. He was going to go to Toledo. Buffalo and I believe Fordham (could have wrong east coast school) was his 2nd and 3rd choice from what I am told.

  7. So this is where we are. Bashing the NIT selection committee. Who cares

  8. There were options, though. Scar already done told ya that he wouldn't have built that stadium. Maybe the U should have gone the UMass/Temple route and played home games at Cleveland Browns Stadium. Maybe we should have dropped football altogether. Maybe we should have merged with Kent. Maybe we should all just stop bitching. Nah.

  9. Yeah, but you're conveniently forgetting the other option of building a Div. III stadium instead

  10. Blossom is a much better outdoor venue for concerts. That really limits the options.

  11. I don't get why InfoCision itself gets so much grief. If it were filled to 20k on average, which should be easily possible, it would generate sufficient revenue to pay the bills. Info Cision is a resource. Figure out a way to fill it, instead of grousing about it.

  12. Jatavis is a great positive influence hanging around the team like that

  13. Lol. Everyone improves. I'm saying he was a big catch when Dambrot signed him.

  14. So they can pack the Wolstein Center! Duh!

  15. What do you suppose the comparison would be between East & New Philadelphia in terms of number of cans of Copenhagen purchased?

  16. To summarize the article, Infocision stadium=

  17. Yeah, but he was a big, higher profile recruit. He was 1st Team D-1 All-Ohio. I consider that kind of player pretty high profile. He single-handedly took his team to the state Final Four in Columbus. I remember Cincy fans talking about him on chat boards & they all really liked him but thought he wasn't quite explosive enough to get the offer from Cincy - even though the Cincy coaches gave him a lot of attention. It seems like they were about spot on with their assessment.

  18. Thank God that's never happened at UA.

  19. I don't subscribe to that apocalyptic belief. Buffalo shook the tree, getting rid of a solid guy in Witherspoon...and it got them to the Big Dance. It now looks like they hired a solid guy to replace Hurley. Ohio has gone through several coaches in the past decade. They seem to be vying for a MAC championship on an annual basis? Kent has seen Waters...Heath...Christian...Ford...Senderoff...and they've consistently won 20 games and competed for championships. It would be asinine to hold on to an underachieving, or mediocre coach "...because the next hire might be Coleman Crawford." If that is your standard, you shouldn't be in Division 1 college basketball. If Dambrot left for Duquesne or South Florida, Larry Williams should be able to find an equivalent-or-better replacement. If he hired "the next Coleman Crawford," our problem would be that UA hired the wrong AD, not that finding a solid basketball coach is impossible. Thankfully we don't need to worry about any basketball HC in the near future. But when the inevitable happens, it doesn't scare me. Buffalo, Ohio, Kent...they all change coaches regularly, and still win 20 games...and they still beat the Zips once or twice per season...and they still compete for MAC Championships. And none of their hires remotely resembled Coleman Crawford.

  20. You guys do realize that it is exponentially more likely that the next Akron coach will bring the program back to its historical mean (middle of the road to conference bottom feeder) than it is that they would turn Akron into the next Gonzaga or Wichita State, right?

  21. As I recall, Zeke Marshall was the MAC Defensive POY twice, the MAC Tournament MVP, and on the All- MAC more than once. Saying he wasn't an impact player is revisionist history. As for UA not getting Akron kids, sometimes that has to do with the kid. I'm not excusing every loss of a kid, but sometimes they want to go away.

  22. I'm with you. To say that Zeke was not an impact player is ludicrous. He is the all-time shot block leader for the conference. Let me know when someone breaks that. Could Zeke have been better? Of course, but that can be said about EVERY PLAYER THAT EVER LACED 'EM UP. The hyperbole on this board is ridiculous at times.

  23. I do think this was a down year for the MAC. Some would call it parity. Looked like mediocrity to me. The Zips were the average girl in the ugly girl parade.
