I'm concerned that regardless of the seriousness of Woodson's offense that he used such bad judgment at such an integral part of the season. He essentially doubled up on his stupidity.2 points

Plus - the source listed for the Rotoworld article was.....the Akron Beacon Journal....so we know it must be gospel2 points

Here's what happened a few years ago, the last time we faced a supposedly "far superior" and "unbeatable" MAC opponent at home in November. http://www.espn.com/college-football/game?gameId=3333320062 points

Lets hope your starting QB prediction is as accurate as it was prior to the season. These next two games could very likely save or cost the staff their jobs. It would be great to know what Woody did to allow us to make a fair assessment of the situation, but I'd imagine they want the player out there who gives them the best chance to win considering the circumstances.1 point

20-30 of us as I recall. I plan to be there, but in addition to miserable weather, it is a long drive, too. Not as far as SIU-E or NIU, but not as close BUGS or WVU. It makes for a long day.1 point

When you get to the NCAA Tourney, there are very few unworthy teams. There may be a few among the automatic qualifiers, but for the most part, with only 48 teams out of ~200, any opponent is dangerous. The 2017 Zips need to stop slouching and feeling entitled. It's post season time, and our team needs to show they want it more than their opponent. That was not readily apparent yesterday.1 point

Zips need to focus on beating WMU. It will take the best effort this season to best them in their crib. For decades we have bemoaned the lack of worthy competition in MAC. Well, that day has come. Broncos are really good!1 point

Pumped for the Groce era to begin today. Essentially a brand new team we will be trotting out on the court. Go Zips!!1 point

Wasn't our AD the AD at Marquette when we played there on an iced-over field? It's a crappy tactic that increases the chance for injuries, even if it's done in the name of home-field advantage.1 point

Skip - remember last season when they kept news on Ball's medical status a mystery all season long? Everyone was mum on the subject every week...your idea is a solid one...1 point

Hey! Wouldn't it be great if The U had a viewing party in the JAR using the new video scoreboard for fans to watch the match together???1 point

That's code for...... "We're going to make it look like thousands of people will be there, because we're begging you to come and support us". They only drew 200 for their final home game this year, and only 500 yesterday.1 point

I absolutely think we should send them some AKRON fan photos, and see if they post them. Asking for only Ohio State photos is really stupid.1 point

So what you guys are telling me is we should troll the ABJ with our "Team Ohio" photos?1 point

I remember that game well. I was one of the few calling for a Zips win. We played them pretty well the year before as well. So we're not necessarily outmatched in this one either. I personally would like to see Bowden and co. pull out all the stops in this one.1 point

I believe the highest possible RPI rank for Akron is #7. If the Zips beat WMU, I calculate their final RPI (including the max bonus of 0.0065 for a road win over a top team) as 0.6278. WMU's RPI, currently 0.6302, will drop with the loss to 0.6269 (or lower if there is a penalty for a home loss, which I don't know). Clemson is #6 at 0.6356, and their season is done. These calculations do not include shifts of SOS and OSS due to games played by opponents and opponents' opponents (too many possible cases to run through), but these should be minor effects. So that leaves Akron at #7. (This also assumes Wake beats Virginia in the ACC final; if Virginia wins, they will be above Akron also, and bump them down to #8. So root for Wake!)1 point

The extra loss is the difference. Akron's winning percentage is 15.5/19 = 0.819, Stanford's is 15.5/18 = 0.861. A team's winning percentage is 1/4 of RPI, so the RPI difference from this is (1/4)(0.8611-0.8158)=0.0113. The actual RPI difference is much smaller, 0.6154-0.6116=0.0038. This is due to Akron's better strength of schedule. An Akron win over WMU will push them above Stanford (whose season is over).1 point

Zip_ME87.......I think this guy's memory of our many screw-jobs from the selection committee is a lot more like mine.1 point

I'm not sure why the hostility with the all caps. None of us will know for sure how that would have played out. With rpi & rankings as they are, the committee may have had no choice. And by the way, Akron has a contemporary reputation in NCAA soccer that would have made it almost impossible for the committee not to have put the ZIps in the tournament in this situation. You cannot compare Zips' Mens Soccer ability to get into the tournament with Mens Basketball's. Zips Mens soccer actually defeats Top 25 teams.1 point

That would create some drama, and would certainly attract some press coverage and fan interest. That's exactly what we need.1 point

That's my point Big Buff....the question was who would we like to host...and I wan to have him come here and bust his soccer balls by beating him in his past residence.....1 point
